I have been a very long time lurker on this site as a nevermo. I thought I’d seen/heard it all. Tonight on the Real Housewives of SLC the topic of Mormon Swingers came up. What? Has this topic ever even been discussed on this forum?

...it's just sex, and if everyone's been through the temple, why can't the elders quorum swap wives?

Just have a get-together, then at the end of the evening, after the closing prayer, the men toss their keys into a hat and the women reach in, pull out a set of keys, and go home with that worthy elder.

The kids never even notice.

This is what my ex-husband's elder's quarum did, in Southern California. The men thought they were Hollywood stars, because they were wealthy and good looking. All of them ended up getting divorced and excommunicated, including my own husband and his brother, and 4 other men. The only man to slip by unscathed was the EQ president and leader of the pack. He was my home teacher, and had been a bishop in SLC, and had an affair and a baby with his wife, when both were still married to other people. They moved to California, because of the scandal.

Weak people are so easily led. My husband and his brother were both extremely narcissistic. BIL was in the bishopric at the time, and made his millions when he was quite young. After his divorce from his RS president wife of 20 years, he got married and divorced 5 more times, and was addicted to chasing women, gambling, and alcohol. When his parents died, he, as executor of their Will, stole the inheritance from his two brothers. He now has lost his entire fortune by day-trading, and by gambling in Las Vegas. He now lives in the house of one of his ex wives.

My husband abandoned me and our children, and ran off with one of his women, and we didn't see or hear from him again (no child support or alimony), until our grown children reached out to him a few times. He spent every weekend at the Vegas casinos with his brother, and became a heavier drinker than his brother. This made him sickly. BIL was my ex's business partner, and he stole the business out from under my ex, and lost it all.

My sister-in-law and I had no idea about the affairs--but we wondered why these Elders kept trying to hit on us. We thought they were our friends, but they were sick predators. A few of the other Mormon wives participated in wife-swapping, and the others met the men in various bars. (It wasn't just the men--the women were just as depraved.

I thought this happened only our ward, because of the "Hollywood influence," But these men not "influenced", but were rotten to the core. They were inveterate liars, and would cover up for each other, being each other's alibi, saying they were having an elder's quorum meeting or playing golf or basketball together, etc. They would brag to each other about their "conquests." They were unable to love their children. (There's a difference between two people working together or being close neighbors and falling in love, or even swingers agreeing to a mutual lifestyle which doesn't involve children--and sex addicts/serial seducers, like these men were. 15 children were left without fathers, when this scandal was finished.

This is not a rumor, because I lived it. The happy ending is that those narcissistic fools, who berated women, and thought they were smarter than everyone else, and were above the law, ended up destitute. My sister-in-law and I had careers, after we got divorced, and made more money than we ever could have imagined. SIL married someone wealthy (and honest), to top things off.

He was just being a good mormon - like in Nauvoo back in the day. Hitting on married women is one of the foundations of the faith, after all.

Sorry you had to go through that, Mother Who Knows, but glad it spurred you to make something good from it. Well done.
