I have never, EVER heard "personage" used outside of the first vision(s) description.

Recently I've started receiving spam from a place called "word genius," and today's word is "personage."

I wonder if there's a TBM on staff there.

Really?

I have often thought, "Hmm, that Gordon B. Stinky sure is a strange personage!"

You don't get that a lot?

I know the word from Jane Austin novels (Emma, Pride & Prejudice, Persuasion.) It also appears in other classic works of literature. It's perhaps somewhat archaic by now, but still carries a particular meaning of an individual of some note or importance, or supposed importance. It might have been more a part of 19th century speech, hence a part of Joseph Smith's writings.
