"Austin's resident bats are Mexican free-tailed bats, which migrate each spring from central Mexico to various roosts all over the southwestern U.S. On their nightly flights the bats eat anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 pounds of insects, including mosquitoes and harmful agricultural pests."

I went to church with my grandmother in Utah, and there was a bat flying around the room. Hard to do anything besides watch the bat flying around the top of the room. :)

Would take awhile for cricket bats to kill 10,000 to 30,000 pounds of insects.

Oh darn, too late. Your wife borrowed the last of ours early this morning.

Those dark blobs in your omelette? Not mushrooms.

"Unlike fruit bats in other countries, the fruit bats of the Seychelles are free of viruses and are safe to eat. They also make very good pets. I had one as a pet and it was called her ‘Tililine’."

A pet you can eat! Best of both worlds? The best world? A batty world?

Bats might not be the most cuddly of animals at first glance, but they surely are our friends.

Using bats as food did not go well for Wuhan. Or the rest of us, for that matter.

bat guano: good for the garden...

bat + *humans* = disease

Isn't this where C-19 originated?

Anyway, I'm a bat fan... from a distance. Great watching 'em fly.

There are people who DON'T think bats are cuddly and our friends? Weird.

As well as eating bugs they also pollinate and spread seeds. The flying fox is reforesting AU after the fires. I know people who are care givers for them. You must have special shots and special training. Truly fascinating creatures. If you are interested check out Youtube for flying fox rescue or release. You can also look on FB.

standing on the apartment building roof with a tennis racket on my mission in Taiwan and trying to whack them of the sky. They were so fast, they could turn in a nano second and avoid being hit. Holy swing and miss Batman!

Yeah, you probably pissed them off--and look what ensued. . .

When were you in Taiwan?

You were playing "tennis" with a bat? That's no way to play baseball. No wonder you lost.

My Dad said when he was a kid, he'd go out with a tennis racket and hold a lite match in front of the racket and the bats would come flying in and get fooled by the match.

I've never tried it to see if it really works.

I have 5 bat houses on my house. At least 3 get used. I am not sure with the others since the, errr, digested bugs (you know the term I'm thinking) is not readily visible.

Ah, memories.

We used to to spend the night in St. George, Utah, on our way to somewhere else, and there was nothing to do in that town except watch the bats at dusk. It was mesmerizing, silent, and time stood still.
