We're all safe from the Chinese rocket. We can sleep peacefully tonight.

It went down in the Indian Ocean about an hour ago. So my Toyota is safe. Now I can relax.

GEICO is going to start selling a Chinese Space Junk rider for all their policies.

Pretty much any risk can be insured, even when it's a certainty, like death, Einstein, Tao or Let-go-of-my-Logos.

My cynicism hardly knows any bounds, and sad to say, the following story was within those bounds. But it did make me sad, so maybe that's progress of a sort.

For those of you who click on the link, it will be hard to finish the story; the temptation to bury your head in the sand will be close to irresistible. It's one of the things we humans do best.

My whole life we've been in urgent mode re environmental issues. Supposedly. I heard an enthusiastic young woman the other day say "we're the generation that's most concerned about the environment".

Uh. Yeah. So were we.

It's embarrassing that we dropped the ball so badly.

And tragic.

Exactly. China's view of the environment can be summed up by the rocket, and Russia's goes without saying.

Even Japan, very possibly, as they start to release the radioactive water from the 2011 disaster.
