Never underestimate the stupidity of dated organizations with too much money. Why does the church build so many temples now? Why did rock stars snort so much coke in the 70’s and 80’s? Because they could afford it.

Sure Brigham Young predicted thousands of temples. The church struggled to keep building more until there were stock market bubbles and the church made huge gains in equities not to mention agriculture and real estate ventures. What do you do with all this extra money? You build temples.

This really is the classic case of build it and they will come hopeism. The church had the same mindset after World War II. The result was lot’s of debt in the late 50’s and not as many new members as hoped.

The bottom line is the church isn’t growing. The church is dated in a changing world. It’s focusing on the youth and young adults hoping to retain them but it’s always done this. It’s business as usual but with more money from the business side of the church to blow on temples.

Since the Salt Lake area is a huge tithing and labor generating area of the church you will see more of these swing up and cladded temples be built until the airborne arsenic from the dry lake bed forces the church to move to Missouri where again they will clas with the locals.

Pushing marble blocks on handcarts will build so much muscle that Mormons will finally look like a Freiberg painting.

I think their only hope is to get Ryan Murphy to do a new temple movie. "Elohim's Revenge: American Horror Story with a bit of Glee" so there is something for everyone. Could work. No?

Out of all the things religion could be doing for humanity and the planet, they build places for rituals. Humans are hopeless.

It's become their brand. What other church builds temples? Never mind that temples aren't actually productive or useful; building temples is what they do, and it's what they want to be known for. This is their way of growing the brand, just like any other business.

The least they could do is have a drive through to buy French fries.

Exactly. The temples are just Mormons impressing themselves.

Church’s used to build hospitals. Church ran hospitals were a major source of healthcare in many areas. All these LDS temples are going to be expensive white elephants. They will become nothing special. Then what?

The church would be better off running hospitals. That’s better PR and something the members could take pride in. That’s really helping people; especially, if you provide good care and keep the costs down.

Jesus taught our bodies are our temple. He never said build physical temples. He said love God and help others. He said nothing of tacky fairy castles and wearing green aprons.

In the 1930's railroad companies were luring people to the plains with promise of land and "rain follows the plow" slogans.

Then the deep till farming practices were hit with a major drought and we had the Dust Bowl. Storms so bad people and livestock dies from dust pneumonia.

Mormon, Inc is showing this mentality with "build it and they will come" Temples.
