I wonder if any of our posters are in these areas. These just started a day ago! Got the kids out of the camp site with the help of the Chumash Indian Tribe and their buses.. probably from the Casino...

This one is closest to where I live, however, not threatening any of out homes. Most of the area is dry brush and very few buildings.

This one is farther North of us... can get into housing very easily.

Sending everyone safe wishes, SusieQ...

When I was growing up, we (up on the hill where we lived), were under evacuation warnings several times. I remember my parents, trying very hard to appear calm so they didn't panic my sister and me, as they decided what things were most important for us to take with us in our car...and what we had to leave behind if we were ordered to evacuate and the fire(s) reached our house.

It never happened, but (even now) I am always aware of the priority list to be followed if it ever SHOULD happen.

I hope the winds in all of the affected areas are friendly, and that the fires die down, and that everyone is safe, and there are no structural fires and no deaths of humans or animals.

I am feeling for everyone who is affected.

We're sitting tight hoping the winds don't come up and start blowing the fires in our direction! Right now, it's very calm. One was started by a car fire, of all things.

So far, we've never been on a forced evacuation for a fire. They have come close but we have never been hit. I'd be out with the hose soaking the house first!

First priority is legal papers (birth certificates...marriage certificates...insurance papers...diplomas...etc., etc., etc.).

Co-first priority is family animals, plus food and dishes for feeding them, necessary leashes and carriers (etc., etc. etc.).

Second priority is irreplaceable memorabilia: family photos...great-great-grandma's chafing dish...(etc., etc., etc.)

Third priority is "survival" essentials: prescription medicines...toothbrushes...toothpaste...a couple (minimum) of sets of underwear or outerwear for every person...combs and brushes...blankets and pillows (etc., etc., etc.)

This is the priority list my sister and I were taught, anyway. :)

I'm sorry for all those affected by the wildfires. I hope that you and your family and friends continue to stay safe, Susie.

We were camping off Paradise Rd. at Rancho Oso yesterday and had to evacuate. Had dinner in Goleta and the ash was already getting bad!

Hope you are safe!

The smoke last night was a lot worse than it is now. 7:23 pm.

The fire has burned to the top of the mountain and started down the front side but seems to be holding there.

Evacuation warnings for Goleta, but the fire seems to be a bit farther north.

Very light winds at the moment.

Another day of fires spreading like crazy.
The Boy Scout camp is gone and several other camping places. Lake Cachuma is closed (just recently water levels went up.) Lots of evacuations.
Roads, highways are closed: 154, 246, l, 101... different parts are not open yet.

I'm up in Lompoc closer to the ocean. My daughter called from TX (they have evacuations -- hurricanes!) and wanted to know where we would evacuate to. I said: the ocean! :-)

It's mostly mountainous areas, canyons, dry brush that is burning.

Eventually, the vegetation will grown back and the buildings and camps will most likely be rebuilt better than before.

Lots of ash. And I'm about 50 miles away from most of the fires.
Got the car washed and it had ash on it before driving two miles home! :-)

Fortunately, the winds are died down in our area and we are not likely to be in any of the fire areas.

hehe! Actually, it's very quiet in my little neighborhood. I'm staying indoor, out of the ash!

My son took his dirt bike and went ....someplace... still not back. He's a regular mountain goat with that thing!
