Link or it didn't happen. (jkz)

He was a consummate actor.

I just read where he turned down the part to play Spock on Star Trek. Later Leonard Nimoy was cast in Mission Impossible after Landau quit over a contract dispute (that was after Nimoy's tv series with Star Trek was up.)

ML was an outstanding, classy actor. I loved him in Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors. The Impossible Boner.

Seriously thought he was dead a long time ago :/

Remember in the early 90's seeing him in "Ed Wood" playing an aged Bela Legosi and thinking, "yeah, great role and glad he got to play one more part because he's really good." I guess he was just good at playing an aged actor--acting!--and glad he lasted a long time.

Don't forget, he also did 2 seasons of Space 1999 as well.

And 1999 came and went, and I'm still not breathing liquid. RIP, Landau.

So handsome--even as an elderly man.

I remember watching Space:1999 on tv in Italy in the 70s and I loved it.

He had 177 acting credits at IMDB; 6 as producer; and 110 as himself, most apparently in short documentaries.

He also played Rulon Jeffs in the 1914 TV movie "Outlaw Prophet: Warren Jeffs," so this thread isn't so off-topic after all.

First time I saw him was in "Mission Impossible" in 1968. Then later in "North by Northwest" on TV--"Hey, that's Martin Landau"--and I did get to see him in "Ed Wood" in a special screening at the Unitarian Church.

RIP.

I kinda "met" him once time when he started walking across Gayley Blvd. near UCLA carrying some laundry from the cleaners' slung across his shoulder.

He stepped into Gayley withhout glancing to the left or right, so I decided (without knowing who he was) that he needed a lesson in pedestrian etiquette.

I hit the horn on my Honda scooter (it sounded like the belligerent bleat of a adonoidal goat) as I skidded to a stop near his feet. (He was in no danger. I was a very good bike driver) He swiveled around and glared mega-volts at me with those incredibly blue eyes, and I started stammering.

"Mr. Landau, sir, you could have been HURT!! You need to remember to look both ways before you cross, even here in Westwood!" He relaxed into a charming smile after he realized that I was a badly rattled college kid. He promised to look both ways after that, and crossed the street, to get into a fairly ratty black Buick. We waved goodby, with smiles.

I occasionally saw him and his black Buick a few times around Westwood after that. Always, I hit the horn on my Honda and grinned. He would grin and wave back. Nice guy.

He was a versatile actor and could do either serious or funny roles. I remember him in The Hallelujah Trail; he was great!
