Couldn't resist checking out what Bednar had to say. Thankfully I could just go online and find only his talk. Just learned that the expression "perfecting the saints" has been updated by Bednar to "partaking of the divine nature". He must have used the phase "partake of the diving nature" more times than I could count. We "partake...." in our non-worldly homes, in the temple, and at church. How anyone can say so much nothing over the course of so much time amazes me.

Partaking of the divine nature means absolutely nothing. If sitting in a windowless temple with a group of dozing, bored, tired, elderly Mormons, who smell like they haven't washed their temple clothes in years will show me how to partake of this elusive divine nature I'm hanged. What is divine nature? I've never seen any, felt any, nor partaken of any because I haven't a clue what he's talking about!!!!

So as not to embarrass himself with pickle speeches and nonsense about earrings, Bednar has perfected a speaking style that leaves one scratching his heading wondering what the heck the guy was yammering on and on about. I'd like to get that talk on a loop tape for times I cannot fall asleep at night.

The Flood was divine nature?

Sending destroying angels to kill multi-thousand Phillistine soldier while they slept was divine nature?

Bears eating children?? Etc., etc.

He is the poster child for trying (but failing) to sound profound by inventing phrases.

I might be wrong, but wasn't "tender mercies" his as well?

He did, most recently, bring "tender mercies" to the fore.

However, it was in the Book of Mormon, so not his originally. Whether you attribute it to Nephi or Joseph Smith Jnr. depends on your take per the veracity of the Book of Mormon.

Psalm 25:6 King James Version (KJV)

6 Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.

Tender mercy always sounded like a some kind of cut of beef.

...only after being marinated in a bag of mormon nonsense. Known to tenderize meat, put people to sleep, and increase entropy in the universe. Powerful stuff.

I've had requests made for a tender mercy and I was always happy to oblige, provided I had had enough recovery time. A tender mercy does drain one.

I'm going to credit him a new phrase from my Nature Valley granola bar box.

Sweet and Salty Nut

Perfect for Bednar!

Partake: another outdated word that only Mormons use, along with thee, thou, etc...
