Australia has legalised same sex marriage!

At long last! After a referendum and debate today in parliament same sex marriage is legal in Australia!

I am proud and embarrassed at the same time. SO proud and pleased that my gay friends can marry if they choose, but embarrassed that it took so long for Oz to allow it.

Right thinking has prevailed in the end, with equality in marriage to all Aussies, I couldn't be more pleased!

Happy for all Australians.
A society that takes equality under the law seriously is a safer, happier society than one that doesn't.

The video of the celebration on the floor of Parliament when the results were announced was heart warming, corny as that phrase may sound. Welcome to the club.
