A bone spur was noticed on one of the images i had done and they think it could be another contributor of pain but the PA said that there is probably nothing they can do about it but she is going to double check with the doctor. I just want to know if this is true or not. In my mind i feel like shaving a bone spur down could be possible but i am no doctor. Sorry about all the medical questions but i feel i am closing in on the final things.

Maybe it's where my bone spur is located. I have two and one is in a very unusual place which is why i think she said nothing could be done about it.

The easier the access, the more likely they can fix it.

My wife had a bone spur removed. I thought it was a fairly common surgery.

Depends on where it is.

A bone spur in the heel would be painful and can be cut out.
But the recuperation takes time and can also be painful, simply because you are stepping on the foot.

Bone spurs can be filed down if they are on the gums and cutting into the tongue.
But if the spur is not bothering you or rubbing against anything, leave it alone.
Bone spurs are common.

What if the bone spur is on the hyoid bone underneath the tongue or on a neck bone.

I have one on my "bad" ankle. It was noticed in an x-ray about 10 years ago, and at the time the doc said dealing with *just that* wasn't worth it -- the surgery was expensive and painful.

Now that I have to get a replacement ligament (same ankle) and have some bone fragments removed and some other stuff, they're going to do all of 'em at once, including filing down the bone spur. I look forward to it (Jan. 17th I go in, the only real downside is no golf for at least a month!).

Erm, it will take longer than that.

But it's great your ankle is getting fixed for good.

I know it probably will. But I'm hopeful regarding a fast recovery...:)

Forgive her, Hie, she doesn't know about the highlighted elevated expectations golfers always have...

I go in for surgery on my disc on the 22nd, may the force or the atheist god be with us.

May the doctors be educated and competent! :)

Elyse is right, it depends on where it is. As a retired podiatrist I used to treat bone spurs in the heel every day. Not all bone spurs are painful and in the case of heel spurs the pain is usually from the inflammed plantar fascia, not the spur.

Conservative treatment should be tried first in most cases.
