Is anyone here watching Monson’s funeral? If so I have two questions, the large greenery draping his casket...I assuming that is symbolic for the green apron in the temple. Am I correct?
Also, they just panned the audience and there was a huge area of open seating on the top right of the conference center. Is it really that empty? My husband says it’s reserved but I disagree when the funeral has already started.

but they wouldn't put that on top of the casket. I may be wrong, but I don't think so. My parents had some type of arrangement draping their caskets and then they put them on top of the grave. My dad had an ornamental grain-type thing as he was a farmer. We put pine on my mother's casket as she died around Christmas.

I've noticed the large empty area during general conference, too. When I actually went with my TBM daughter many years ago (as a favor to her), they had an empty space then, too. I don't know why they have it that way. I'm sure there were many people who wanted to get in and are in other buildings by temple square.

I looked. Yes, there is a green drapery made of leaves over his casket.

Never saw such a thing in my life. The opening song was "Lilies of the field" so I am thinking they are made of lily leaves since its out of season for lilies?

I have never heard of what you are referring to when it comes to the green drapery, even when I was LDS.

Empty seats? I know that there was a seating was first come first seating, so I doubt it's reserved seating?

Ok thanks guys! I live in Tennessee and have my whole life and just have never seen anything even somewhat resembling that.

I just turned the channel. That is what it looks like! I've never seen anything like it.

It's over? One hour? Wow! Most mormon funerals aren't only an hour!!!

I'll watch to see if I can get a closer view.

Really, I've NEVER seen anything like the piece of greenery they have hanging over that casket and I've been to a lot of mormon funerals.

P.S. I got a pretty good look at it and it sure looks like a temple apron.

wearing black, but the women in the tabernacle choir aren't. I find that funny given that mormons don't wear black for funerals.

They are making me ill with their comments. My son asked me to please change the channel. I told him why I had turned it.

Black would be the right professional color to wear for a news agency who is covering a funeral.

Because a dark suit for man is considered appropriate attire for a funeral.....

Inside the conference center, most men were in dark suits, the women, whatever they wanted. Not much black for the women inside.

Watching BYUTV with all the glowing horseshit about this guy. It’s easy to smile and visit people when you are embarrassingly rich on the backs of church members.

The protocol obviously required credentials to enter - so that there could be no possibility of any disturbance. Because of the time of year and travel, there were not enough persons with credentials - requiring interviews or positions - to fill the auditorium. I have only been there twice and it was NOT full even when tickets were readily available for a special event.

Who died?

Now all the other mormons will be draping their caskets with leaf aprons and then the leaders will tell them this is inappropriate.

It's times like these we are extra happy we don't live in UT. We'd go nuts having to listen to all the news reports.

My feelings exactly. Not just that, but it was just a regular workday for me, although on Fridays I only work half a day. Nothing here about the funeral on any of the local news sources, and it's really nice.

The green draping is simplying the “staging” of the casket for the audience. Inside the coffin, Monson’s body is “staged” in his white temple clothes, baker’s cap, and green fig leaf apron. His body is also filled with embalming fluid and cosmetics were added to his skin so the embalmed remains didn’t have a greyish look to them.

As with all things Mormon, appearances are everything. Greenery, make up, and trying to preserve the dead are all part of the illusion. The Mortician’s Boner.

I just looked at pictures of that greenery, and the thing I thought of was an unfinished Rose Parade float. That, or from a distance, it looks like sod.
