Update on finding this story. With the title and author I found all of Kornbluth's short fiction at my local library.
The story is quite apt for today's world."They'll track me down...It's a secret police thing. They'll get you --mind reading machines, television eyes everywhere, afraid you'll tell their slaves about freedom and stuff. They don't let anybody cross them, like that story I once read".
This could be taken several ways as it applies to religion and politics!

When you take into account that the tossed this off in the early 1950s, it's a remarkable story.

"Would you buy that for a dollar?"

How many people do you know, or suspect, would try to cut the line to get on a space ship to Venus? How many people do you know who sit hang back, waiting for a maximum return on a minimum of effort?

Can you imagine what a joke it would be to try to live the United Order?

EOD, you're remembering Robocop.

In The Marching Morons is was "Moogs! Would you buy it for a quarter?"

Here's the section from the story:

A glowing sign said:

MOOGS!
WOULD YOU BUY IT
FOR A QUARTER?

He didn't know what Moogs was or were; the illustration showed an incredibly proportioned girl, 99.9 percent naked, writhing passionately in animated full color.

It is with everlasting regret that I admit my tragic fallibility; old age has hit me hard, upside the head...

But I remain enamored of the solution Kornbluth offered.

He's currently being somewhat matched by Bill Burr, who laments that there are so many people wandering around, seemingly purposeless, and getting in the way...

Mind reading technology is already available.

Big Brother has arrived, with the Thought Police.

Isn't it common knowledge that the NSA https://www.nsa.gov has the ability to hack into most smart phones, laptops, etc., to access the audio and video features to spy on you even when you think you're protected.

In a congressional hearing a couple years ago, the head of the agency was specifically asked if the NSA had the capability to do just that. The answer he gave and the hearing commission accepted without follow up was "NSA doesn't do that because it's illegal".

Never said if they had the capability to do it.

If NSA can do it, so can Russia, China and a bunch other countries.
