Visiting TBM daughter & fam.

Knock on door. SIL answers, announces the HTs are here.

In comes Rick, dressed in knee-length shorts, tee shirt & sandals, carrying his 1-year old daughter.

Home teachers??

Times have changed! Or this is California. Or both.

Message: repentance. IOW, we can clean up our messes.

Thanks to the late Prez Tommy, apparently.

Glad THAT’S over!

PS Oh right, it’s the 28th

Allowing HT visits while you are there is totally inappropriate.
Impolite hosts.

I agree. If there are guests, there should be no home teaching taking place.

Totally.

Sorry, I can't have guests right now... I have company.

I’m staying here for 3 nights. I’m here quite often. So I don’t think of myself as a “guest.”

All that said, I agree with you 100%. It is still not appropriate. The HT had not called ahead to ask if he could come. I guess that’s typical toward the end of the month.

But, I was really interested in some response to their dress. When I was going home teaching, I would have worn a shirt and tie. I guess the standards are different now.

PapaKen, You must be from the West and younger than I. I ALWAYS not only wore a tie but a jacket, also.

The HTer could have been told, "I have family here now, so I can't invite you in, but thanks for coming."

Yes.

I have family here now, so I can't have (spontaneous) company.

Wrong time
Wrong people
Wrong dress
Wrong message
Wrong house

Personally, I knocked on thousands of doors and rarely was not invited in.

No. I ran for public office. I once got over 50 consecutive people to sign a primary petition for me. On the occasions I was called upon to do a split with the mishies, I never spoke about TSCC but almost all joined. I spoke about anything but TSCC.

They should have called. It is the right thing to do. There is no justification to drop in unannounced. It's plain rude.

No thanks. My home is [already] smart enough. I taught it everything I know: (now) I have a Smart Home.

I remember my first time Ward Teaching! I had to be 12 or 13... This would have been in '57 or '58.

With nonmormon parents, I was paired with a man who seemed to me to be Methusalistic in age. This worthy gentleman picked me up in his 1948 (or so) Packard. http://images.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/04/IMG_0414_1024x768.jpg

The only thing I remember is that he would lean his body to turn the steering wheel in shallow curves, like in the Kelso-Turner project in Las Vegas. His arms stayed stiff and his upper body tilted to the right to steer right and left to steer left. It struck me as very bizarre, and I can speak to that issue, since I myself had already been driving for a couple of years, but just stolen cars, not the cars of anyone I knew...

I don't remember the gentleman's name, don't remember ever being in anybody's house, I just remember his driving style, and his car.

When I was a teenager in central city Salt Lake I went home teaching with this really old guy. I don't recall wearing anything special other than my school clothes.

Even then I thought home teaching was invasive and asinine.

We were checking to see if people's thoughts were in line with Dear Leader's thoughts.
