A bridal shower for a sister was listed on the bulletin and announced over the pulpit.

However, the future couple is not announcing their temple wedding nor reception. These activities are reserved strictly for the SP, BP, and whomever else they selected for their happy day.

This just smacks of greedy entitlement: We want you to fork over gifts "give me ... give me" despite the fact that we aren't willing to pay $60.00 for a Walmart sheet cake and plastic cups to serve water in to celebrate OUR marriage.

What am I missing here?

My nevermo response would be:

Do not go to the shower...and DO send the couple a very nice wedding congratulations card wishing them well.

[Of course, I do not have to socialize with these people...nor go to church-related activities, or church, with them, so YMMV. ;) ]

The business of the Lord was interrupted so that a public announcement could be made about everyone being invited to the bridal shower, but there was no mention of being invited to the wedding???

That is truly a remarkable occurrence. The 'gimme' is strong in that one...

Ok here's what you do..... cut out a picture from a magazine of whatever she wants as a gift and then paste that picture in the
bottom of the gift box. Then wrap it up and put a pretty bow on it.

It sort of represents the half assed way they didn't invite you to the wedding, so you can give a present in a half assed way.

What it all means is that they don't want you to come to the wedding, even though you are her sister. If they wanted you to
attend, you would have recieved an invitation.

So..... you get no invitation, they get no gift from you. Their
behavior is totally tasteless, classless and tacky. I've never
in my life heard of treatment like that.

Sounds fishy to have it announced as a part of church (SM?)

"I heard you're having a shower. Here's a bar of soap."

If they renew their vows after 50 years, does she get a bridal golden shower?

It sounds more like an advertisement as opposed to an invitation.

I would guess that everyone who has a temple recommend can go and see them get married.
But the reception appears to be by invitation only.

Of course, if the couple does not have the money for a reception they may have decided not to hold one.

Since only a shower was announced perhaps they needed items and someone gave them the shower.

One just never knows.

But why would you even want to go with only a blanket invitation?

It will be held in the RS room. The circulated announcement said that a bridal shower "will be held to honor XX." Sounds like a grand event!

I asked. There will be no announcement of the wedding nor for a reception. Unless invited, the general ward membership won't be attending the wedding. The membership won't be attending a reception in the cultural hall. They haven't been invited. I schedule the building so I know what is going on there!
