But then Hump day, the 14th, beside being St. Valentine's Day, is also the first day of Lent!!!!

I've decided to give up Valentine's Day, such is my devotion to giving things up in order to be a better oldish boy.

What will you (or what ought you) give up for the 40 days of Lent, in order to help Jesus become with the at one ment?

(Which is where "atone" comes from, per some nameless Sunday school teacher in my past, who certainly had no idea how the Hebrew or Aramaic word for atonement is spelled. This occurred during one of my lucid moments in class, and it stuck; the atonement is the at one ment of me and Jesus. Amen)

I always give up lent for lent. Killing two birds with one stone as they say.

I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 1970. Had the time of my life--I think. At least, what I can remember of it. I was in a complete blackout from the time I left my hotel near the French Quarter, to my arrival in Waterville, Maine, which involved transfers in NYC and Boston. I only remember the commuter co-pilot waking me up and telling me we were on approach to Waterville, Maine. That's where I "attended" college, getting my B.A. (Bachelor of Alchoholism).

Boy, do I miss those brain cells!

Lent is like New Year's--I make the same New Year's resolutions, and give up the same things for Lent, every year. It's simpler.

My co-workers just headed to the bar. I decided to skip since it is my first day in the office in over 2 weeks.

I have up Friday The 13th for lint! Happy Valentine's day! And The Good Times are Still Rolling...
