Interesting comment about half way down the page

"Kelly, who is also a Mormon, has been a special victims
prosecutor in Utah for the last two and a half decades,
including nine years in Provo, the home of LDS church flagship
college Brigham Young University. Utah's high concentration of
Mormons has meant many of Kelly's cases have involved members of
the faith.

"“We frequently see cases where victims will go to their local
clergy and talk about what’s happening first before they come to
us,” she said, adding that LDS bishops often make court
appearances.

"“As a prosecutor I have seen bishops many times come in and
speak on behalf on defendants,” she said. “I have never seen one
talk in support of victims. Never in 26 years.”"

Not Only in sexual matters, take my word on it!

Anything that tends to disprove or discredit their claims (discernment being Central) is immediately attacked.

Sounds to me like they could care less about the victims and are only concerned with the way the church is portrayed. They want to make sure the defendants name is in good standing with the church since they are a member and all. Funny how that works.

Makes sense. The male is usually head of household and makes the most money, which tithing is based from. If you still think LDS Inc. is a church-you're wrong.

I believe it from my own experience, they all turn on the kid/victim every time making it feel like it is their fault.

As long as the abuser is a tithe-paying priesthood holder.

We used to have a lawyer on RfM who had links to many of his mormon court cases. It was his specialty and he reached a similar conclusion. His tactic was to hold their feet to fire and threaten public church humiliation at which time the mormon law firm would always arrange for payment under the table.

Could this be intentional? Could being there to show support for the victims be interpreted as the church acknowledging that abuse/assault has taken place and thus possibly expose the church to liability for failing to intervene?

Remember the church is all about protecting itself above all else.
