What's to speculate?
There will be true-blue mormon, old white guys selected.
Doesn't even really matter who they are, they'll only be selected if they toe the already existing lines.

Don't they usually peruse the ranks of the 70s quorums for the next cranky, cantankerous old fogey?

Generally yes. BYU presidents sometimes leapfrog over the seventies and go straight to the 12. Presiding bishopric members sometimes get there as well.

OK.

Everybody here, quickly write down the names of the very WEALTHIEST Mormons you know, and I'll wager that the new Q12 members will be on that list.

“I coulda been a contender! I coulda been the first brown apostle!”

I'm the great grandson of the first Brown apostle - Hugh B. Brown.

And the B also stands for Brown.

Mic drop.

Until his death last month, Elder Von Keetch (sounds like a character from a World War II battle movie) was a good contender for the job.

He was 57, an attorney whose Wikipedia bio goes like this:

"He was a shareholder in the law firm of Kirton McConkie and a member of the firm's Constitutional, Religious and Appellate Practice section. He defended land use rights of religious groups against state regulations, and argued against liability of religious groups for crimes committed by their members."

Here’s a link to all of his qualifications:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von_G._Keetch

I think he would have made it, but he had the nerve to get sick and die on them. What an ingrate! All that training and lawyering gone to waste.

L. Whitney Clayton and Craig Christensen are likely candidates, if that matters.

of his name. What "L" does the "L" stand for in L. Whitney Clayton's name?

I think it is French.

Le Whitney Clayton.

Actually stands for Lyndon.

Kim Clark. They desperately need his modern management skills, plus they owe him for destroying his career.

Yeah, and his first talk as an apostle will be something about being wounded on the battlefield.

What?

BYU-Idaho is a step down from Harvard Business School?

No way.

To answer the original question, IMO most people here simply don't care any more.

I think the lack of Q 12 speculations (there is a spot open right?) here is the best anecdotal evidence of church decline.

I believe that is exactly right.

Ten years ago, even five years ago, there would have been speculation.

Yeah, but then I thought about it. There had been building the hope of another race apostle.

The Mormons didn't fail to fail so maybe no one cares what retirement aged church lackey white man is chosen.

All thoughtful responses, Thanks.

(My last on this?):

Remember, we're about as far away from this decision as possible; I still believe that given the competitive nature of tscc, there's lot of behind-the-scenes positioning & speculation.

god natt!

I'll wagzr that one if the two will be a black or Latino. The other a rich, white American dude.

to me it seems unlikely that they would go directly to a Black man without first stopping at Brown, but it if were to happen thusly, I would give all credit to how well the church is doing and is expected to do, in Africa.

I agree on both points: brown before black, black if necessary to make a statement to Africa.

If "brown," Gerritt Gong is interesting. The leaks show he's getting lots of apostle time.

I think we all know that **the racist God** will call another white dude because the church holds on too its bigoted roots. With Hoax and Nelson, any sort of feeble "progress" was crushed after GBH and TSM passed on (and I don't really think that either of those two profits were really interested in reforming the church.) I think the hardcore "we don't apologize for nobody" leadership is going to drive the church further into oblivion.

Any/All speculation on this matter will be over by 4/9/2018 (unless another Apostate dies or resigns before then).

amen.
