Was **W. CLEON SKOUSEN** ever excommunicated from the Church--

If so could you give me the date or a link or reference

I think the answer is no. I'm sure it would be common knowledge here at RfM and mentioned often if Skousen had been ex'd. Of course, I'm not an expert.

Here is a reasonable-seeming bio of him though, which doesn't mention anything like that:

. . . and the mayor of SLC fired good ol' goofy Cleon from his position as the city's chief of police.

Then-Mormon president Spencer W. Kimball's First Presidency eventually sent out a letter to all local LDS leaders directing them not to allow use of Mormon church buildings to host events in behalf of Skousen's radical-right Freeman Institute.

And Skousen once violated copyright on one of my cartoons by changing it without permission to suit his own political purposes. I threatened legal action, so he publicly apologized, sort of (after first calling me to claim that a lawsuit would put him out of business).

But I don't think any of these offenses led to his temple blessings being stripped from him. :)

You could have put Skousen out of business and you didn't follow through with it??

I settled for a published apology in his goofy mazazine (a skinback on his part which actually was kind of mealy-mouthed).

I hold myself fully accountable for not moving in for the monetary kill. I once visited his outfit's HQ in Provo, Utah. I tell ya, if he ran his business like he had his HQ "organized," he was doomed for failure. The place was an utter and absolute disaster. Even worse than my garage. :)

For what it's worth, I never recall hearing anything like that.

To my knowledge, he died at 92 in 2006 a fully worthy member of the LDS Church.
He had some very unusual ideas that some find not just fascinating, but believable. Nothing in his writings would cause him to be excommunicated, from what I can tell.

What can be said of these people?

It may be they have actually read his works.

If they'll accept the wild claims of Joseph Smith and friends, their standards for belief are so wacky they can believe just about anything they want to.

Why would LDS, Inc. ex Skousen? He became one of its latter-day founding philosophers and thinkers...

He was Cleon's brother.

Max again was facing disciplinary hearings after his re-baptism. He requested name removal rather than face ex-communication again.

Just a follow-up, in light of Glenn Beck's bubbling excitement over discovering Klingon Skousen: was he ever disciplined in any way other than President Kimball's 1979 directives that none of his works or organizations be approved, sponsored, or hosted by LDS officers or facilities, either directly or implicitly?

Cleone was excommunicated from the church in England but had all his blessings restored.
