It feels like any of us that tried to break off from religion are not around anymore. It would bring me some comfort if i wasn't the only one for some reason.

And as far as I know, I'm still alive :)

Today I may be, but all of us are one horrible accident or crime away from catastrophe. I hate to be so fatalistic, but I'm just enjoying it while things are good. There's no guarantee things will remain good.

Don't more than 200,000 people come to this site. Where the hell are the kids from the early 1980's. I know the cemetaries they are in.

Maybe most young people just don't come to this site.... or we weren't in long enough to really have much to recover from.

I don't really post much on this board. I'm more of a lurker and reader and if a topic interests me enough I'll chime in. Usually I don't have anything significant to say.

I was born into the church but not the covenant as my mother was the only member. I was born in the 1960's and turned into a jack mo by the 1980's. Finally resigned in the early 2000's and here I am still kickin'.

My case is much the same. Born in the late 50s to an active mom and a non-member dad. But boy, he went to meetings with her almost every Sunday. (I left in the 80s when I realized that women weren’t getting the priesthood any time soon.) His story’s more interesting than mine...

When the Family Home Evening program was introduced in about 1965, dad was so gung-ho about it that our bishop invited him to teach the FHE lessons. Pretty bizarre, seeing my dad teaching lessons in Sunday school.

No, he never joined ... but now I regret that I contributed to his conversion. At YBU I wrote him my very long testimony (pleading with him to join) inside the flyleaf of a BoM for him. I found it in his nightstand after he died – he had been reading it.

Eventually he got that testimony of the whole thing, not just FHE. That was shortly before he died, about 40 years after he taught those lessons. After his death, mom’s family did his temple work ~ of course.

That counts for me. So out of 200,000 people that come to this site, there is about 4 of us. Had a feeling the number was few. But i had to know for sure out of curiousity. Curiousity gets the best of me when i don't see anyone in their early 30's for about four years in this town.

Not only alive, but thriving!

Leaving the cult caused problems socially, with the Mormons, but it SOLVED all our other problems.

No more physical abuse for me and my children
No more mental abuse
No more judgments and blame for "nothing"
No more punishments for stupid things like being late for a
meeting, wearing the wrong underwear, choosing family over church, and other stuff that are NOT SINS in the eyes of God
No more being depressed
No more PTSD triggers
No more arguments with my kids about religion. They were the wiser ones!

My life is so great, that I would go through all the trouble of leaving, all over again--even if I had only one more day to live! That one day would have been worth it!

Please understand that leaving is not the end, but the beginning of your real life.

But don't listen to me. I'm old enough that I should be dead.

I think i am seeing the light of what life can really be without that dark religion hanging over my head constantly.

Close to being born in the early 80's. Plenty of Gen X people have left the church. Plenty have died from suicide too. It's a total crap shoot.

Yes many die from suicide for good reason. I just got threatened by church security on this board and i haven't set foot in a church building in a little over a year and a half. They track you even after you leave, it never f#cking ends.

Had a feeling i was being monitored by church officials of somekind this whole time. You can kind of feel it sometimes. When you think you are free you are still not free.

Did church security really post on this board? even if there was a message from someone saying he represented church security, are you sure it wasn't someone just messing with you?

That's extremely Orwellian, it's just like in 1984 when Big Brother catches Winston and Julia knocking boots and commanding voices start coming out from behind the walls just before the "Gestapo" comes crashing in.

If you're on your way out, then make it official quickly and firmly, I don't know how any dignified person could tolerate or forgive that.
