Trees are dropping their branches on me. It's not windy. I'm hardly ever outside. This is happening with increasing regularity. It's never happened before.

Is this payback for wasting too much paper?

It's starting to feel like I'm surrounded by "whomping willows." Sycamore, fir, gum, pine, madrone, oak (ouch.)

I'm sure there is a perfectly rational reason for this (Hie.) If there's an irrational reason, I'd like to know that too!

Not parking under trees anymore.

I like trees...and I like oak trees in particular, but I've never had this happen to me.

Since we now know that trees and other plants can, and DO, "communicate" with each other, are you sure you didn't inadvertently offend one tree, and now all the others are gossiping about you???

:)

on a tree how many people have died running into that tree. But I have vociferously defended the trees because it certainly is not their fault.

I do not fear running into trees.

I did spread the story that one tree was falsely maligned as 1 of the deaths posted was really a drug overdose on the way to the hospital when his driver ran into that tree. He did not die of the collision but of the delay.

Well...the next time a branch drops on you, you might try talking to the tree (and if you simultaneously touch it, similar to the way you would pet a cat or a dog, this would probably help)...and explain to it, out loud, what you have done to defend trees, you might begin a process where all the trees, individually, decide to not drop branches on you anymore.

This would be good to include in your explanation.

If there is a false story going around in your local tree world that you are anti-tree, you just might be able to turn the story around if the trees become aware that you are a supportive ally.

(If you interact with any oak or eucalyptus trees, please tell them that I say "Hi!." Thank you!)

If you live near madrone trees you know why. Their old bark has peeled off and a smooth and sensuous new skin has appeared with a internal luster that is impossible to resist touching.

So it's either stop fondling the madrones or try to fondle the firs with their crusty bark? I got smacked by a big wet gob of Spanish moss type stuff this morning. I was under the tree for 5 seconds, max. The gob had fascinating trumpet-shaped flowers on it.

OK, I will fondle the other trees too...

Perhaps that tree that grows just outside the window of the bishops office overheard that you have been offended, or want to sin or look at porn. Maybe that tree has been spreading that gossip to its fellows.

Never was a tree close to so much fertilizer.

Were you by any chance out walking your dog one day? Near the trees?

Perhaps the trees miss seeing me. They are saying "Why haven't we seen you lately? Here have a branch or at least a wet gob of crud."

I loved the Whomping Willow! Such a noble tree.

Western Washington:

Valuable varieties are fir, hemlock, Western Red Cedar.

Junk Trees: Cottonwood.

Alders are in between, some furniture is made from them, but low heat value for fireplaces.

many 'also' varieties here also, I mention just a few.

When I bought my present home (10 years ago) there were a few pines and about 20 Cottonwoods. Over the years I have removed all but 7 of the Cottonwoods. I do enjoy the ripple of the cottonwood leaves but they dropped large limbs constantly, especially if there was wind. Many were infested with flying ants and other critters. Hopefully the ones that are left will stay healthy but if they start doing their dropping thing, I will remove them also. I have planted another 40 Pine Trees which give the place a woodsy/mountain feel.

Everytime I go outside I get attacked by trees. One time a tree threw a walnut at me and it hit me in the head.

I'm at a loss. :(

Of course, not knowing a rational cause doesn't mean there isn't one -- we just don't know what it is.

I agree with your approach: absent evidence, take reasonable action based on what we do know (don't park under trees!).

At least I won't tell you that Elohim is out to get you for leaving mormonism, and is doing it by turning trees against you... :)

Hang in there. And watch those limbs!

We had a hard freeze last week - snow on the ground for 5 days. I think the freeze damaged the fallen branches' connections to the trees and the branches fell for that reason.

Most of these branches have green leaves.

Still falling. My car was covered with them this a.m. as was my porch.

Thanks for listening...

It's gravity, not you, or the trees (The Screaming Trees maybe).

You might try parking the car (not under a tree), and walking.

Use less [toilet] paper.

When I was in high school in the 70's, we had a teacher named Mr. Ritcher. One day, he was walking on campus and a large tree limb broke and fell on him. Dropped him to the ground and banged him up pretty good.

The next edition of our school newspaper had a front page headline..."Tree falling measures 9.0 on the Ritcher scale."

True story.
