Mental illness is a real condition that is battled by many.

My uncle battled bipolar to the day he passed.

Your association of religious people being mentally ill has done a disservice to any credibility you had after many years of following your posts.

You have many cult followers - I will not be one of them anymore.

I'm sorry about your uncle, but what you are doing is projecting your personal situation on to this analysis of religion systems and mindsets that are deemed and demonstrated to:

-create and foster mental unhealthiness,

-employ destructive tactics of control,

-devise tools for intimidation, dependency and deceit,

-peddle beliefs that are weird and irrational,

-spawn toxic superior-inferior relationships that are unbalanced and inimical to personal independence/choice, and

-abuse and manipulate.

Mormonism is just one example. There are plenty more. If you don't get that, then the joke's on you.

As a man with a so-called mental illness PTSD steve is correct. The religion is either the cause through its leaders or has just made me a million times worse. There is a connection between mental illness and religion, a big one, especially the mormon one.

I agree with adam. My family is rife with both mental illness and Mormonism. I don't know what caused the one or the other, but the two are best friends.

A Steve benson Political cartoon was referenced in a “Boondocks” comic strip collection I was reading a couple weeks ago. Steve, did you know about this?

The funny gene skipped over Ezra, so it had to land somewhere.

When the official LDS Church magazine, the "Ensign," featured him in a front-cover copy of a painting, it showed him without his signature large turquoise silver-trimmed ring. (In fact, the painting was itself based on an official photograph of my grandfather which showed him sporting that ring). Grandpa used to wear the ring all the time and its glaring absence in the cover art immediately caught my attention.

I asked him why his ring was missing. He smiled and said, "I didn't want people to think I was the Mormon Pope and they had to kiss my ring."
