Funny. When my polygamist sister and her husband visited me, the conversation wasn't over until he said it was.

Mormon women stand (or don't) for this kind of treatment.

My daughter had said that leadership in the church doesn't appeal to her. Maybe she was talking about having to be respected like this? Apparently, in the early church "Brother Joseph" didn't have these kind of pharisaical norms. Why does Mormonism now? Isn't it like kissing a clergyman's ring?

And here I thought the line was:

"If you don't stand for something, your butt will be sore."

LOL! I wonder if Sister Bednar would have gotten a spanking if she didn't sit her ass back down?

I don't think it is a big deal to wait to stand. She knows what she is in. The wait for him to stand thing is the least of it.

Must be worth it.

In having nice things like retirement ease and ego stroking I guess. I would never want a partner in life who thought there was something about me that differentiated me that much from them in social situations.

I feel for people for whom they are in a relationship of comfortable living with indirect accolades. Many have said "Stepford Wives" but this is more than that. IT is more than being the spouse of a famous person. It is making your partner in life your spiritual overseer and your coupling to them your purpose and meaning for being.

There aren't many divorced apostles. This is more than second fiddle. This is not being able to stand on your own because of the perceived power of your husband. That is barbaric in my mind.

Or sit (on the [barbed wire]) fence. I can't stand that.

I stand with Thomas Jefferson—

“I am opposed to any form of tyranny over the mind of man.”

James Madison’s Boner.
