Preliminary: 5.0

"Channel Islands, Beach, Ventura County"

Soft, up-and-down (as versus "roller coaster": side-to-side), but seemed to go on for a [relative to most] prolonged period.

I doubt there is any damage anywhere, but it is certainly a reminder that our planet is not only "still here," but is interacting with us. :)

Inspite of these quakings in CA, I would live there in a minute and greaaatfully leave fucking Mormon Utah behind me if it were only possible.

It was a 5.3 near the channel islands. Off shore. not a big deal.

It was said on the news the quake was ten miles below water surface. Still, on the Ring of Fire.

One of my children on the day he moved from Los Angeles there were two small earthquakes as he was waking up to go to the airport.

The day he arrived at his destination in a small country town on the other side of the world, another earthquake hit there in the very location he was moving to. Something that rarely if ever happens there.

I was thunderstruck. He was fine. I thought at the time perhaps it was his guardian angel letting me know he was keeping an eye on things. ;-)

I love teaching young children about the Earth's tectonic plates, volcanoes, and earthquakes. It boggles their minds that the Earth is constantly jiggling.

Didn't even notice it, but someone on a fishing boat off Santa Cruz Island posted some cool pic's of dust clouds from landslides.

Not Zarahemla-destroying, but interesting.

We had a 3.7 about 20 miles from us Sunday late afternoon.
We were eating dinner with a guest.
We heard the rumble, felt a little shake...then we all looked at each other, shrugged, and went back to eating.
Later on I looked it up.

Well, here in Utah we’re still shook up about mixing elders and high priests! I’m glad y’all are safe. Someday the big one will hit Utah, I’m not looking forward to that. The Shaken Boner.

I didn't feel it. But friends in Whittier did.

I'm a lil concerned that there have been no aftershocks.

I remember 4 years ago when we had a 5.1 in my town....
and there were so many aftershocks it felt nonstop.

Soooo.....fingers crossed that this 5.3 isn't a precursor to a bigger one.

Am I prepared? I do have bottled water & some canned foods.
And I have a can opener nearby.

I'm in S. CA.....we're always rockin' & rollin'.

I didn't feel it at work near LAX, as I'm in a 2 story building, and was on the first floor at the time, on my lunch break.
