This is part of a Mormon video, but Judy Brummer does a really nice job of saying a sentence in Xhosa (one of a number of click languages in southern Africa).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wVRJsoH-c4

"Judy Brummer Speaks Xhosa, the Clicking Language"

Xhosa has three different clicks (transliterated as: c...x... and q), and two of the several other languages which use clicks (some have four clicks, some have one or two) are Zulu and Swazi...

...and also Khoisan--which is likely the current and latest descendant language of one of the very first original language(s) ever spoken by human beings.

My clicks are improving (my African language is Xhosa, too), but Judy Brummer is definitely a much better Xhosa speaker than I am!!

Trevor Noah does a wonderful job speaking very clear Xhosa, because (at least in part) he is trying to make himself understood to North Americans who may have at least some knowledge of Xhosa.

He also has videos on YouTube of what amount to him actually teaching simple Xhosa. I think he is great! :D

If you transcribe Xhosa into the Deseret Alphabet, is it then Reformed Xhosa?

:D

This is a very interesting question...

Could the letters "c," "x," and "q" in the Deseret Alphabet be "repurposed" as Xhosa click sounds??

;)

She must have had so many enormously interesting stories to tell you!!

Do you remember what part of South Africa she was from?

Port Elizabeth IIRC. How many Mormons are there in SA? After all, the church legal dept. doesn't want that sort of stuff published any more.... :- P

Still watching Johnny Clegg videos.

This one was funny. He looks like he woke up in a field somewhere; I'm betting he borrowed those glasses on the spot. The guy in the front row on stage seems mortified when he leads the assembly on a war song chant. Looks like Clegg started with a speech then reverted into a story of the kind he tells between songs.

One where he is more academic

Thank you for your patience.
