https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/may/13/robert-jeffress-religious-bigot-wrong-jerusalem-pr/

"Senate candidate Mitt Romney of Utah says a prominent Baptist minister shouldn’t be giving the prayer that opens the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem because he’s a “religious bigot.”

In a tweet Sunday night, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee criticized Dallas minister Robert Jeffress for his remarks about Jews, Mormons and Islam.

Romney said, “Robert Jeffress says ‘you can’t be saved by being a Jew,’ and ‘Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.’ He’s said the same about Islam.”

The liberal group Media Matters reports on its website that Jeffress made the remarks cited by Romney in a 2011 speech at the conservative Values Voter Summit.

Jeffress responded in a tweet of his own by defending his view that “salvation is through faith in Christ alone.”

“Historic Christianity has taught for 2,000 years that salvation is through faith in Christ alone. The fact that I, along with tens of millions of evangelical Christians around the world, continue to espouse that belief, is neither bigoted nor newsworthy,” Jeffress said in the tweet."

Romney is correct. Jeffress is a bigot. IF Jeffress was right, wouldn't all Christians agree with him? They don't.

HH =)

I can't imagine why Trump would've asked Jeffress given his daughter Ivanka and SIL Jared are observant, Orthodox Jews.

It's blasphemous to invite a known bigot who espouses so much hatred and vitriol toward others not of his religious creed. Especially given the context in which the prayer is set to take place.

Is it Armageddon he wants to usher in? Or the peace of Jerusalem?

I venture it isn't the latter.

Mormons have, of course and of necessity, redefined terms the meaning of which had been understood by Christians for centuries.

Mormons give their own definition of salvation which differs from the Christian. In that way, Mormons are able to say that those who go to "the lowest heaven" are saved. But the Christian definition of being saved is to dwell with God throughout all eternity; heaven is not divided up into levels. The Mormon definition of salvation is not salvation at all to a Christian.

Indeed, Mormons believe that only Mormons will achieve the celestial kingdom. Mitt is a hypocrite.

Indeed, for centuries, Christianity has taught that salvation is gained through Christ alone. Period.

This is very well put.

By definition, and as you say, out of necessity, Mormons have claimed the 'one, true church' and the revelation(s) given to JS and subsequent prophets as their guide.

Mitt seems tone deaf (again). If he wants so badly to belong in the White House, he needs to learn how to blend in more.

Stones, glass houses (or home in La Jolla), pots, kettles....

Trump referred to Mitt as 'sour grapes', iirc.

Not sure foreign policy is best left with Javanka. Could be it all turns out wonderfully but so far, not so good.

With such TT's (Trump tweets) as:

"My daughter, Ivanka, is about to give birth to a beautiful Jewish baby"

I don't really vibe with that kind of bragging about someone else's religion and in this context, a by-proxy ownership/affinity with persons of Jewish faith.

Whatever happened to Trump's bff, the Rev. Paula White?

Let us remind dim-witted Romney that his church has all sorts of "saving ordinances" -- and ask him which are NECESSARY for exaltation.

Wait, wait, wait a minute.....And what does Mitt's church believe about those that are not members of his church??? What happens to them when they die? Same thing the baptist said?....Yep.

That was my thought exactly.

Since when do Mormons believe you can be saved by being a Baptist? Jew? Muslim? Whatever?

I'll have to let my family know, they'll be so relieved!

Neither seems to remember what Christ said that the duties of his followers are. Not that I don't mess up often, but I have not put myself out as a leader.
