In reading the latest article on church finances I noticed this.

"We have felt that good farms represent a safe investment where the assets of the church may be preserved and enhanced, while at the same time they are available as an agricultural resource to feed the people in time of need."

How did that work out for the thousands of members that turned to the church during the Great Recession and were told the church was not there to help them?

That's a good question. From reading Quinns latest Book Wealth and Corporate power, it's obvious to me that the LDS church has staggering wealth in land all over the world especially in Brazil and Argentina. And for what purpose? Quinn suggests that likely a great deal of agriculture is being sold in the common market. So the food we buy is actually much of it from the Church. But the church has so much cash flow that Tithing has ceased to be a major source of income since the times of N. Eldon Tanner.

The wealth of the church could well be over that of Bill Gates or Zuckerburg, Steve jobs, we may frighteningly be looking at something more along the lines of the Rothchilds? IDK

The church buys up water rights as well. Fresh water is what people will be fighting over in the 21st century. The church has made a great strategic move acquiring such assets.

Girdon B. Honkily? The famous mormon who single-handedly was alone at the top and never doubted that when he spoke, people heard words?

What a guy!

The latest Mormon Newsroom article even states that the agricultural reserves come from tithing dollars.
https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/church-finances-and-a-growing-global-church

Church Reserves:
"In addition to food and emergency supplies, the Church also sets aside funds each year for future needs. These funds are added to Church reserves, which include stocks and bonds, taxable businesses, agricultural interests and commercial and residential property."

"Q: Where does the money for the Church’s reserves come from?"

"The vast majority of Church operations are funded through the sacred tithes and offerings given by members."

What makes a tithe "sacred"? Does sacred money earn more interest? Does it have more intrinsic worth? What happens if you leave sacred money as a tip?

Obviously "sacred" a misspelling: it should be "scared".

As in you're scared you won't have an eternal family if you don't pay your tithes.

You can buy anything (including portfolio security) with money.

Joe Smith's Kirtland Scam was all about liquidity in land. In fact Joe was always about speculating in farming and land.

Guy wearing a black shirt and white tie and sporting a flashy
pinky ring shows up on your front porch with two burly guys
behind him: "It would be a shame if you were to miss your
daughter's wedding."

I missed the wedding of a daughter because I would not lie.
