I have numerous LDS friends who are black. They know all about racist doctrine, but dismiss the "curse of Cain" as not really being about black skin, when MORmON scriptures couldnt be more clear on that particular doctrine.
They are well aware of all the "controversial" topics, including racist history and practices.
One of them went to our SP and complained about the racism he encountered in the Mormon church.
Our SP said,"Dont expect an apology for racism because it is based upon divine revelation."
I had to admit he was right, Mormon scriptures are RACIST AF!
SO do black Mormons have a right to expect equality when they know Joseph's Myth is a racist ideology?

I would guess blacks (just like everyone else) are mixed up with lots of different problems in life. They are so burdened up with messed up lives (as whites are too) that maybe it's literally not so much of an issue in their mind as it obviously is for white liberals.

I don't think they are victims of anything but their own stupidity, just like the rest of us are victims of our own stupidity.

it's hard to feel sorry for people who choose to participate anyway. Even if you're born into the Mormiest Mormon family, it's still pretty obviously bogus and there are plenty of opportunities to figure that out. People who don't stop and ask themselves if a real god would really do this, that, or the other thing … I think they're dum-dums.

This question could be expanded to a broader context. I was thinking last night about the history of Racism and the Pilgrims who came to America and how their ideas shaped what we see today. To blame Mormons for religious racism and priesthood restriction is harsh because everyone believed in those ideas. When the puritans and pilgrims came from England they came with an idea that the lord directs men's lives (proverbs 3:6). That where we are born and into what circumstance we are because of predestination. They believed that wealth was because of gods love for some and hate for others and that salvation had already been determined for some and not for others (Calvinism).

Naturally these ideas carried over to the idea of an open promised land for whites and that it was gods gift to the white man to spread out and conquer... Manifest Destiny. They saw the Indians and judged them to be barbaric, and later the same for blacks.

So I would say racism is rooted in the American Christian Religion (which mormonism is a part of). It's a way to explain why some seem different in manners, or poorer, or have a different color in skin.
