I stayed in a Marriott hotel over the weekend (a TownePlace Suites in a northern Midwest location). Like many of y'all, I went looking for the BoM in the nightstand in order to add my anti-testimony.

The nightstand in this particular room was open-top style, similar to this one:

http://images2.imgix.net/p4dbimg/806/images/215-72-front.jpg?fit=fill&trim=color&trimcolor=FFFFFF&trimtol=5&bg=FFFFFF&w=768&h=576&fm=pjpg

They put their Gideon bible in the open top area, but the BoM was "hidden" inside the lower drawer.

Looks like somebody is being counter-Mormon-cultural?

Maybe it was the Gideons who downgraded the BoM to the lower drawer...?

I think the BoM had some unresolved sin and was sent to the terrestrial drawer by the bible in the celestial drawer.

Not so bad, because while you can't be with them forever, you can still visit those in the terrestrial realm :)

And it came to pass that the Gideon Bible did journey to the lower kingdom to visit its kindred book -- which, while equally mythical, had the misfortune to be almost entirely disprovable, instead of just mostly disprovable.

Amen.

>> ....instead of just mostly disprovable.

Is that like being "mostly dead?"

I used to travel quite a bit for work - 400+ nights at Marriotts. Still drawing down the points for free stays. We recently stayed at a Marriott Residence Inn in Delray Beach. The BofM was prominently located in the drawer by the bed. Many other Marriotts, when I thought to look, often did not have a BofM in the room. It must be up to the franchise owner. I am not certain.

Perhaps the maid who cleaned that room figured that was a more appropriate place for the BoM... if she was Southern Baptist down here in the Bible belt, you can be sure that is where she would place it.

OR, perhaps the room resident before you was from RfM, and didn't want the thing out where innocents could find it...

I'm not against "hiding" the BoM before I leave a Marriott room...

What is the equivalency ratio????

How many time units of Book of MORmON reading does is take to cancel out a unit of time viewing Marriott provided porn ?????

Reminds me of the story of the Mormon bishop who stayed in Marriot Hotels while traveling for business. He was unhappy that porn was available in an establishment owned by Mormons, so decided to protest in his own way. When he checked in the next time, he told the clerk, "I'd like the porn channel in my room disabled." The clerk looked up in surprise and said, "I'm sorry sir, we only have normal porn available." No inspirational sacrament talks about that experience!

brotherofjared() you just made me shoot coffee out my nose all over the keyboard...… thanks, good way to start a day.

that was good / funny.

......reminds me of another funny incident/ screw up relative the Gold plates /BOM. Instead of obscuring the (laughable and highly questionable and agonizingly boring) text that was supposedly derived from the golden plates by Joe Smith, MORmON Jesus obscured/ took away the actual plates that would have been able to lend far more credence to Joe Smith's gold plates/BOM story than Joe's laughable supposed translation of the gold plates.

If you take the BOM from the room and dispose of it offsite, do they charge you for it once they discover it is missing?

Typically, those Bibles and in the case of Marriott hotels, books of Mormon are free to take. At least that’s my understanding, if they end up disappearing I believe they just replace them.

Back in the dark ages when I was a hotel maid, we never even checked to see if the Bible was still in the room. Not on the checklist, we did not check.

Based on that experience I doubt they would charge if the books disappeared.

Interestingly enough we did check for the books the hotel provided.

A typical hotel or motel presumes (some/ all) things (not bolted down, or even then) will be taken, and charges accordingly.

The free BOMBS are subsidized by the outrageous costs of member bombs (Book of Mormonite BS).

Lately, many Ex-Mormons have reported writing their Anti-testimonies in BoMs at the Marriot. Even leaving addresses of online sources. Maybe that's why they are making their BoMs less prominent?

I did exactly that a Marriott in San Diego. It was very satisfying.

Is it worth reading for a laugh? I have never read it. How much will it warp my mind (further). :P

A laugh? That's funny. NO

There are other books for that

The BOM is exceedingly boring and poorly written, making it easy to get to sleep... it took me thirty years to read through it, almost that long to even finish First Nephi. At one point I tried reading it and retranslating it to modern Englisth. I found it easy to eliminate a third of the words without a change in meaning. The "most correct book" is a joke.

BTW, I have over 1500 books in my home library.
