I see the latest email from cult HQ has a piece about a new lameness called Youth Battalion.

I wonder if this will dovetail into the replacement for scouts or whether the two will essentially be the same. Now, the email doesn’t say this is the definite replacement name for Scouts, but Youth Battalion - lol. I guess all the good names have long standing existing owners. I do hope they keep the name as it really does shout cult. It’s a pity for the kids though, less exposure to life and people outside. I predict the replacement for scouts will fail miserably pretty much everywhere whatever they call it.

There's a youth organization in Belgium where the little children are called the Pioneers and the teens are known as Rebels. Sounds like LDS Pioneers and Confederate Rebels to me, but it's actually the youth organization of a fringe political party from the other end of the spectrum: the Maoists.

But don't expect that from this Youth Battalion. You can always count on the LDS to fight a losing battle.

The gerentocracy that runs the church makes their decisions based on how things were in Utah eighty years ago, combined with an isolationist creepy world view of what they want their private little kingdom to look like. None of that has to do with god or with adjustments to living in today's world. Any replacement for the scouts by the church will fail terribly.

I think that the youth need adventures in the mountains. Hiking and biking, canoeing, snow shoeing, learning about how to navigate in the wilds. If they can keep some of these activities it would be good for the community.

They should also have learning activities in various crafts if possible. Stuff like mixing cement, laying brick and stone, pottery, how to use a router, power tools, building bookcases with dovetail joinery, framing a house, drywall. outdoor cooking and grilling, baking deserts.

Boys and girls could learn together.

It's another sales gimmick known as "Missionary Work". The so-called prophet is encouraging the youth to seek the "Lost Tribes of Israel". IOW, this is the new army commissioned to get converts.
