I’d never even heard of this until recently, now I’m suddenly aware of them here in Salt Lake. One of my co-workers goes to this place called Swigs and I’d never made the connection until this week.
There are quite a few soda shops around the valley. Way too much sugar for me, but I guess it’s fun to see these quirky little places.
Is this whole “dirty soda” concept and the “shots” supposed to be in reference to mixed alcoholic drinks, or adding shots of espresso or pumps of syrup to coffee at Starbucks?
Either way, it sounds pretty risqué for a company owned by Mormons, lol.
When I was in the hospital, the kitchen sent up a slice of chocolate cake with a huge strawberry on the side, (for my birthday) and just looking at it made me feel queasy. I felt bad for not even touching it. Any other time, it would have been gone in seconds.
I felt guilty for not hiding of it or figuring a way to dispose of it, but didn't even have the energy to flush it down the john, bit by bit. I deeply appreciated the gesture, but could NOT deal with the cake. I just felt too awful. I didn't want to seem unappreciative, but just could not face that cake.
"Shots" of flavored syrup in soda pop strikes me as a lame ripoff of putting shots in beer (boiler maker) or espresso in Starburnt coffee (caffeine). Brings to mind the daring "naughtiness" I felt as a child with candy cigarettes.
Or the overly sweet (and overly priced) flavored pseudo-coffee drinks you get at the failing Starburnt "cafes." Remember, "Friends don't let friends drink Starburnts!"
