I recently caught a case of "YouTubeitus," and there's some good stuff out there as well as a lot of gibberish and outright bull$#*!.

So I'm just killing time waiting for the ol' police interceptor to get back from the shop, and seriously, I'm getting hit with faith-promoting Mormon Missionary stuff, aka "bearing one's testimonkey."

I've posted some stuff on a few subjects like DNA, the ages of Joseph Smith's wives, and other areas we're all familiar with; my question to those more familiar with the subject is "Am I being targeted?"

Anyone else?!?

yes your being targetted. If your search history is about mormondom then they'll send you suggested youtube videos on that subject.

You can test this. Start watching videos about some arbitrary subject, like zoos or the arctic or the periodic table or embroidery. Just play a few seconds of each one & close. You will see you start to get roughly matching recommendations from You Tube.

I don't like it either. It's creepy and I am capable of searching on my own for what might interest me.

That is what happens to me too. Recommended videos pop up based on what I have been viewing.

Damn! That explains all the recommendations for Russian, midget porn actresses. This makes sense.

I often put on YouTube videos when I am working in the kitchen or tearing up old paper for recycling (which I have been doing for the past, seemingly countless now, months), but my YouTube searches are virtually always for things like early Earth/early hominins, Jewish-related subjects, geographical searches, some physics, some biology, and Sanskrit-related subjects.

In other words, not Mormon.

However, YouTube is obviously collecting data on what I do online when I am NOT on YouTube, because I am getting about 20% suggestions on Mormon subjects of all kinds.

I appears to me that YouTube "knows" I am on this board throughout the day, and is suggesting videos based on that data, rather than what I actually access on YouTube.

question: ? are the you tubes incrementally more on topic or more off topic?
? and are the ex Mormon vs pro Mormon you tubes being mixed (every other one? or in a steady stream of more irritating /opposite of your interests you tubes? Is there a way to "steer" the ex mormon video stream via search engine terms differently anyone out there has discovered?

I ask because I noticed this (you tube topic list of suggested next views myself.) It was on a growth topic which I followed after I finally replaced daily scripture study with a daily reference book such as Euclide's Geometry. ? why? well same system, footnotes, something to puzzle, but, more logic. And well I was applying it. (instead underlining scriptures and journaling life related to incidents explained by scriptures weekly, and making pretty book marks or posters or labeling pictures with scriptural references anymore, or quippy positives I was applying Euclides Geometry to shapes out of fabric and material. So, the you tubes found people who would teach me to sew without any scriptural or belief references attaching to the talent or skill. I used You Tube so I had skill in hand with out any sunday school reference or l d s sister taught hobbies (You tubes taught me to sew leather purses- thank you to Texas talent! how to use patterns, how to assemble shapes, how to seam with a machine, once it got going it selected some great teaching videos for me.) Someone said they are getting paid for 'watch' by advertisements and need to mix engagement promoting streams/sequences to stream for more saleable spots (their ads)

That said, I love, love love the amazing & wonderful sharing by exmos and discovering mos (mos in discovery) as they publisize their journey! besides you tube, are there any video blogging spots/ sites or services I should be made aware of?

Slightly OT, but I just got hit with a FB thing (with something like 583 comments) pushing Greg Trimble's book about "the evolution of mormon culture".

What a love fest.

It’s always funny, to me, when I’m searching for something EXMO and an ad for Mormon.com appears. Funny in that for years the Morg tried to get for to stop saying Mormon.

Generally I ignore or report the content as offensive.

Haven't noticed that so much. Only being targeted here by my stalker who threatens me with a severe beating for worse.

Mrs Tarantino: Are you the police?
Elwood: No, ma’am. We’re musicians.

I have seen videos assuring me that Algonquin Native Americans are Lamanites after all, carrying Hebrew DNA because non-scientist Rod Meldrum said so. It doesn't matter what Geneticists have to say on the subject.

As the best friend said to the husband of the woman he was caught in bed with, "Now just hold on a second!! Who are you going to believe, your lying eyes, or me, your best friend in the world?!!?

I get hit with alot of gold panning stuff, etc, etc. They farmed from facebook over and over and sent out per interests. I even got hit with mother earth news and the singles or polygamous ads there.

Go to your browser settings, and clear your cookies and history.

Upside: much (but nowhere near all) of your browser history will no longer be available to web (that includes YouTube through their phone app) tracking.

Downside: you'll have to log-in again to things that "auto" log you in now (FB, YouTube, this site, etc.). Individual sites/apps still know what you did in THEIR site/app. Ad companies who buy data from FB/Google/Adobe still know your long-term history.
