Ok I really hate the songs the church of Christ has! They are terrible and no instruments used ever, I hated them when I was in and still do! The ones I really hate are there is a God and so many more but they are stuck in my head

“What a Friend We Have in Jesus” has been reworked as “Israel, Israel God Is Calling” in Mormonism. Fortunately, my current church doesn’t use that hymn. I’d rather be subjected to 24 hours of “It’s a Small World Afterall!”

Bruce R. McConkie taught that Jesus is NOT your friend, that we are supposed to keep our distance. How could a hymn that teaches Jesus as our friend be tolerated? I think the LDS leaders are terrified of Jesus. If He really becomes your friend, He might let you know somehow that the LDS church is not His.

I have trying to root out the cult hymns, and replace them with songs from other churches.

Glad it's not just me, crazyhorse. I'm always getting songs stuck in my head. (Now they are not church songs) When I have asked people before if they got songs stuck in their heads, most of them tell me no, and look at me like I'm nuts.

Now the songs that get stuck are the ones I want to be there.

We had some nice songs we sang in church back when. We also played instruments, unlike the Church of Christ. Some songs are easier to forget than others.

I loved some of the old ones though. They wouldn't be the same ones you grew up with.

As a musician, performer, music teacher and conductor, music has always been an important part of my life. I grew up on church music, before I converted to the LDS Church. The music was the predominate element that kept me in the LDS Church. I loved the music, not necessarily, all the words, which are often changed. In fact, many tunes can be sung with words from different ones.

Something like 15% LDS hymns and gospel songs are found in other Christian Church hymnals. Some are the same, some have different words. Some in the LDS Church have been lowered a key for ease in singing.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is very unique. I've heard it in person, listened to it for years and on CD's. I've taken instruction at BYU and found the music training to be top notch.

I am not a fan of some of the poorly written music in the hymnal. Some of it needs to be left out of the new hymnal. The same is true for the Children's Song Book.

For some former Mormons, music used in the LDS Church triggers negative feelings/annoying, and brings up bad memories.

As a musician, I can recognize the beauty of the music, religious or otherwise without agreeing with the words.

Drives me crazy!

Does Disney count as a cult????
If so, then I cannot get these songs out of my head:

It's a Small World After All
A Pirate's Life for Me (Why didn't SLC used this song???)
The Circle of Life

Does Andrew L. Weber count as a Cult?

Then:
Jesus Christ Superstar
Memory

Don't Cry for Me Argentina
Benjamin Calypso
Too Much in Love to Care

And my list could continue.........The Angel of Music plays songs in my head...........
