I typed this little sign and put it on the inside of the window in my front door,then I watched through the slats when the Mormon missionaries came to my door. Observing them read it was priceless. One stepped off the porch and went back and read it again. Lots and lots of discussion.

For those that have been to the temple, this statement is from The Law of the Gospel, one of the temple covenants. As the temple is so sacred it is not to be discussed, seeing this statement on a door can be quite a shock. And humorous to observe the reader.

Law of the Gospel: We are required to give unto you the Law of the Gospel as contained in the Holy Scriptures; to give unto you also a charge to avoid all lightmindedness, loud laughter, evil speaking of the Lord's anointed, the taking of the name of God in vain, and every other unholy and impure practice, and to cause you to receive these by covenant.

Once they read it, it spreads through the Mormon Grape Vine like wild fire, which is what I counted on. :-) This will stop the request for "No Contact" which does not work well with the Mormons, or even Resignation that is not respected and contact is made.

There is a sign that would work with all religious types:

Must take off thy clothes
And engage in massive love making
Before any talking

(Imagine the faces of any missionaries that come to thy door.)

I've had similar inklings to put that on my door with an addition:

The occupants of this home are under no obligation to wear clothes.

One day I need to do that.

Luckily, I live in a predominantly Catholic area, where they don't send out missionaries.

I sometimes work in my front yard and don't want to be bothered with them. I prefer to stop them from entering the private road that leads to my home. It's my right. I worked hard to pay for the privacy.

Wish I had one! Just remembering what I watched through the slats in the window gets me giggling... years later! I only had that sign up for a week or so. That's all it took.

Ha ha, gives me an idea...if I ever have the missionaries knock on my door:

"Hi...I have a question: Should I avoid all loud laughter? [silence] OK...remember 'Pay, lay, ale?' Maybe not....that was before your time, something strange we said in the temple. Also we agreed to have our throats slit--they changed that, however. My new name is Luke, what is yours?"

I was once going to put a sign on the door, "missionaries use other door".

Then, on another door, it would have (something like) 'not this one dummies', or 'door stuck, use window', or 'door to HELL' or something.
