I didn't see the news this evening, but heard the reports up until 12:30 p.m. They were gradually adding on. Woke up at 4:30 to the top story being a plane flying into a home, but they didn't know the whole story.

I'm sure there is much more to come.

I find it extremely tragic.

His wife is incredibly lucky he didn't take her and the child with him when he did what he did.

That seemed to be his goal, but fortunately for her he struck out.

It is very tragic. She and their family will be living with the trauma including PTSD, for the rest of her days.

That young man didn't intend to hurt anyone. He was sorry for what he'd done, but felt broken before the crash.

He took the plane to a remote island by order of traffic controllers, after the 'joyride' was over.

It was a small 78-seat passenger airliner the Seattle man/baggage handler flew solo.

If he'd wanted to do serious damage to a building or residential area, he could have. That wasn't his objective.

Just real people living in lala land. It would seem the marriage was over before the plane flew into their home. The man had a violent temper, fueled by alcohol.

The "small plane" was a Cessna Citation six passenger business jet, which cost in the vicinity of $2 to $3 million. This was not a 2 or 4 seater prop plane plane with a top speed in the 150 mph range. It was heavy for a small plane, and could do upwards of 500 mph.

The guy was a pilot for a business in Spanish Fork. He clearly wanted to go out causing as much destruction as possible. His clipping the house next door probably forced the nose of the plane down, reducing the damage it did to his house, though the house is damaged so much that authorities have to be cautious about removing the plane for fear of house collapse. The clip, along with sheer luck, probably saved the wife and son.

The Trib ran an article a few months ago about how for the percentage of murders that are domestic partner murders, Utah is well above the national average. In a culture where women are second class, that's what squeezes out around the edges with the nut cases.

Well, that was a marriage that was not going well. I'm glad his wife and her child survived.

It really is no small miracle he didn't cause more mayhem and destruction than he did.

If an intentional tort can be proven, it can give the insurance company an out.

But the wife is also on the deed, and coverage extends to her interests. Hard to believe that a carrier would try to leave her high and dry.

She or her homeowners insurance may have a lawsuit against the husband's employer for his taking off in a company jet to bomb their house like he did.

So the homeowner's insurance may seek to be indemnified by the company's insurer. And the wife can seek a megabucks lawsuit against the company for her husband flying their plane into their house - even if he was off his rocker at the time and not on company time. He was in one of their planes that he was hired to fly when he intentionally and with malice tried to commit murder. You can't try a dead man. But she sure can sue up the wazoo his employer. After all the dust settles.

This mornings news article is all about some of his surviving children saying their father was hurting and he was not a bad guy.
I get he was hurting in some way, his marriage looked to be over.
I don't get how flying a plane into his own house trying to kill his wife does not make him bad. Would their story be different if their mother and brother had died in the incident?
How does the mother and brother feel about other siblings defending him at this point. Adding more hurt onto what already happened?
This sounds like pure revenge on his part.

He was definitely homicidal when he did the dastardly deed.

Maybe he wasn't rotten to the core. But he had some serious mental health issues, not the least of which was the loss of control he had over his spouse, and anger. Possibly depression.

Add alcohol to the mix, and that makes it even more of a deadly combination.

He was an abusive maniac who freaked out.

The children and wife are left with survivors guilt. In addition to the normal grieving the loss of a loved one.

Plus, a disinterested third party reported him to the police for assaulting his wife. I don't think that a random stranger is going to call the police unless there is something truly concerning. One of the news articles also said that it was his second arrest for domestic assault *this year.* How about previous years?

So that, plus flying the plane into the house, endangering his wife and her son -- no, not a nice guy.

According to Doud's employer, Doud had the digital access code to the hangar the airplane was stored in at the airport where he took off to fly it into his home Sunday morning.

He was their only company pilot, who had earned the trust of his employer. He was described as "rock solid."

Was this guy a member of the Mormoncult? If so, chalk this bizarre incident up to just one more of the crazy deaths, injuries, and/or property damage that seems to occur out of proportion in Mormon life.

People are starting to snap more. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck and have lot’s of debt. The cost of living has increased but what the average person gets paid hasn’t. It’s an environment that puts lot’s of stress on people and their marriages. People snap when they have no hope. They don’t see a happy future. They just want out of this life and some want to hurt others or get some revenge on the way out and some have no desire to hurt anyone but they are done with life themselves.

Or it may be being TBM creates an underlying inner tension that is unresolved conflict keeping people like this Rhedd guy (Duane Youd,) in self-destructive mode instead of reparation. The cognitive dissonance of being Mormon is cause for further mayhem in the inner soul, that manifests itself outwardly in destructive behavior. If he'd killed his wife and her 24-year old son, he'd have been fine with that.

This was not about mormonism. His wife was cheating on him. He called is 2 biological children, earlier and told them to leave the house before he took off. Cheating wives can drive a man to drink and do stupid things. There's blame on both sides.

What really bothers me besides the sheer near tragedy of the wife and her adult child (not the depraved husband,) is that Doud flew rescue flights for people who needed to get to the hospital quickly. He was a pilot used for saving lives, not taking them.

His brain malfunctioned. No matter what else he was going through, he could have exercised enough self-control to stop himself from attempting murder with his company jet. He knew right from wrong. He wasn't an imbecile.

By all accounts, he was a domestic abusive jerk who lacked self-control. He was charged with assaulting his wife in April, and again on the day he tried to murder her.

Leviticus 20:10: “If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife— with the wife of his neighbour—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.”

There is no proof the wife was committing adultery other than slander by stillanon.

And if she was, it is not cause for the death penalty.

As for homicide, that calls for the death penalty in Utah. Only Youd beat the authorities to it. Stupid idiot. He only killed himself, and saved the taxpayers having to do it. Plus, he spared his wife through no fault of his own.

Nothing his wife did or didn't do warranted what Duane Youd did.

He was maniacal. With his temper he should've been locked up long ago, with his first arrest of spousal abuse.

What IS established is that he was arrested twice for assaulting his wife.

The charges speak for themselves.

He figured he was going to get away with murder by crashing the plane. It was more like poetic justice.

One look at his photo on the news and I thought: "Not Mormon."

Unfortunately, TBM's will say "This is what happens when you stray from the Gospel."

We will never know if the Church™ had an impact on this outcome.

His obit says he was a very active Mormon.

I doubt his being Mormon caused him to become suicidal. It probably didn't help any either.

It would have added to the strain of their already tenuous marriage. They'd been divorced before.
