Can someone tell me how a couple in their late 60's with kids and grandkids who a few years ago returned from a foreign country where the husband spent 3 years as a mission president will now spend another few years as a temple president and matron? That means that in the span of 10 years they will have spent 6 years away from their family.

Why?

Because the church doesn't really give a damn about families.

I'm sure that a couple of lds corp sympathizers will jump in and correct me, but the leaders believe that family members will not only understand, but admire them for all their church work they do.

It's a beautiful thing when an organization big on using people meets up with people who think being used makes them special.

There’s only one Elohim (or is it three?). Family members are a dime a dozen.

I know the feeling. I have a close family relative who was a mission president, the medical director in 3 missions and a temple president. the time frame for all of this was 1995-2014 with approx 4 years at home during that nearly 20 year time span. They willingly went overseas for each of these assignments because of fluency in the language.

Want to get away. Don’t want to be free babysitters.

There are a couple of things that could affect the decision.

One is boredom: If the couple is bored and have nothing else in their life to look forward to then this could be a viable alternative.

Second could be: that they are so brainwashed that they can see no alternative to this defacto slavery.

Never the less they are adult human beings. They can choose their behavior and accept the consequences thereof !!!!

I’m going with the second option, kind of like rainforest zombie fungi that take over the minds of certain insect species. Watch for them to keel over and mushrooms to grow out of their heads.

Maybe it is because they don't know how to say NO! I learned to say no to the church callings. Too much demands.
