There may be a decision made today but I'm going to guess that the decision has already been made by whoever's in charge.

Could be wrong.

Of course Wholly McGhost knew ahead of time what the decision would be!

I bet they are going to wait for the hubbub to quiet down and then they will privately inform him.

And yes, the decision has already been made. It was made after his first blog post.

Based on the article, it seems that Sam did a really good job of stating his position in a relatively short amount of time.

I think his excommunication is a foregone conclusion. This did not come from the Houston area, no matter how much the Mormon church protests otherwise. This came from higher up.

"“Because of the personal nature of church disciplinary matters and to respect the privacy of those involved, the church does not provide information about the proceedings,” Hawkins said. "

That is unless they want to let your family and friends know.

They send you a certified letter telling you that you have been excommunicsted. Anyone in your family signs for it, anyone can open it.

Sign for it? I didn't get mine registered mail. Since when does

the tight wad church pay for registered mail instead of regular

snail mail.

Its certified with a receipt sent back as proof you were informed of the decision.

Is it possible the cult will just leave him hanging with no conclusion being sent out? They know where this is headed (to the media) so to avoid more bad PR they hide?

I don't think they planned on the timing--having the tribunal right in the height of the Catholic church sex scandal. Hard not to compare the two and say "the Mormon church is just as bad."

All I can say is that just as the Republican party's support of Trump, despite his total lack of scruples, morality, honesty, fidelity and Constitutional respect has nixed their right to ever call themselves the party of values voters or the Moral Majority, minority or anything; if the church ex's Sam, they have completely lost their right to claim ANY kind of moral high ground or support of children and families.

Amen!
But we know TSCC is nothing but hypocrisy anyway.

I firmly believe that this SP (like so many others before) had already made a decision prior to the disciplinary council. However, I believe that the higher ups have directed this SP not to reveal the church's decision until some days have passed. I think this is done to make it appear as if the disciplinary council actually prays, ponders and deliberates the merits of each church court case.

They also get to choose a time when people aren't focused on the excommunication.

If they had announced the decision on Sunday or Monday, those who had demonstrated in his favor might have demonstrated again--guaranteeing that the press would pay more attention. By waiting till people have moved on, the church gets to avoid coordinated, large-scale public protests.

Yeah. I think they are waiting until the Hurricane hits land full force and then they will announce the decision just as the worst is happening and the press won't care. Heavenly Father arranged the hurricane just for this purpose. There's always a higher purpose.

Hey D & D,

that makes a lot of sense about releasing the decision when the press is focused on a bigger story.

Many years ago, a set of brothers were facing church disciplinary action after being convicted and sentenced to the state penitentiary. During an early morning bishop's meeting (I was the ward clerk), the bishop revealed that the SP was planning to excommunicate one and disfellowship the other.

They really are kangaroo courts with pre-determined outcomes.

is it accurate the that half (6?) of Dry Council members are supposed to represent 'the object's (Sam's ) side of these councils?

I DON't CARE, but do they tell what the 'rules' / protocol of the proceedings is?

Also, since church makes records, (Sam) could also.

somewhere in my files, 'Ancient' photos of front page of Church News (or DN) listing ex's....

Yes. It's accurate, GNPE. This is all handled locally. Half of the Stake Council are to protect the member summoned to the Disciplinary Council. Anyone can ask questions. It's all explained at the onset of the council. Paperwork is sent to SLC Membership Office which is considered Confidential.

There will be a letter of the findings of the council mailed to him. Generally, there will also be an announcement in Sacrament Meeting and/or Priesthood Meeting on next Sunday, probably.

I worked for a Stake President many, many years ago and for CES. And yes, it was done a one time. Usually, it was only announced in priesthood meeting to the men whether the person was male or female.

It's been announced all over Facebook, also.

It will likely be well attended even though this is not where the Disciplinary Council was held.
