So, I haven't been on this board for a long time. I haven't gone to church for a long time either. Never took my name off the list, but I am completely inactive. Anyway, I feel like I'm pretty much recovered. Today I was cleaning out some cabinets decluttering, and I found all my old church music from the 90's. That was the heyday of what I would call LDS church pop music. I have been told that they don't allow that sort of music anymore. ;) The funny thing was, as I was looking through this music-and discarding it- it struck me as how depressing it all was! No wonder I was depressed a lot back then. Anyone else here come to a realization like this? I guess there are probably a lot of depressing hymns also. Lol. So glad I'm not stuck on that treadmill anymore.

The worst, to me, was the Mormon-Pop, “I walked, today, where JOSEPH walked, and felt his spirit near!”

Worst were those kinda Carpenters' (soft pop) style weepers with some kind of descending bells or chimes ending the songs. Ugh.

I prefer the vinyl era, '70s into the mid '80s, when Mormon singers did cover versions of Manilow, Carpenters, Paul Williams, Anne Murray, Bread whitebread soft rock songs, warbling sanitized lyrics (to take out the sensual nature of the love songs), accompanied by programmed keyboards, like Casio. The vocal groups all seemed to be patterned on softening the late '60s Lettermen, covering the same 1968-69 songs. The most popular of them seems to be several albums by SunShade 'n Rain, even doing some disco songs.

Just wonder where all these folks toured. Certainly not in bars or dance clubs. ???

The 90's had some good metal. I've been listening to Tool and Deftones lately.

I've seen that smile, somewhere before...

Yeah, I know, that was from the 70's. But still, after seeing the silly play only twice, I can recall all the words. Indoctrination-type music sure sticks in your head!

Glad to hear you're over it, and tossing it. Cheers!
