I have been following the Bloomberg article about the Supermicro servers being manufactured with spying hardware.

It looks like all the companies involved are denying the article claims, but none of the companies appear to be planning to sue Bloomberg for libel.

I suspect that the companies involved have signed papers with the US government, allowing them to legally deny the incident without consequence.

Who's reputation for honesty is worse, the Mormon Church or the US government?

How is it that leaks are the only way we have to learn the truth? Can't the government just confirm that an investigation is pending and they have given permission to all companies involved to deny being affected?
The news has broken, to ignore it is a lie in itself. Are they not worried about their reputation?

They both engage in perception management for the benefit of the people doing the managing.

They both essentially engage in massive tax farming operations. (Mormons just like to call it "tithing" and donations.)

One big difference is that the government can "legally" use physical violence to enforce its decrees.

The Mormon church could do it on the sly under Joe Junior and Briggy. But it's harder these days.

If the government decided to revoke the Mormon church's tax-exempt status, the Mormon leaders would have a hell of a time, so they're always checking over their shoulder to see whether the government is getting too irritated with anything they do. The don't want that to happen. The Mormon leaders can deliver a huge block of votes. Not perfectly. But still significant. So that's a bargaining chip that they have in politics.

Both institutions only tell the truth by accident. And then they do everything they can to make sure that similar accidents can be prevented from occurring in the future.

It's more useful to have a functioning government than not to have one. For evidence, look at any country where the government hardly controls any of its land and people. The burocracy of EU and USA will suddenly look a lot more appealing.

However, religion cannot give you anything you couldn't have without it. On the contrary, it usually limits and constrains your outlook, ambitions and opportunities.

I would say they are even. At least with the church if I don’t pay tithing they can just ban me from the temple which I hated going to anyways. If I don’t pay taxes, I get fined and jailed. The church is easier to get out of your life than the government.

While it is true the church is founded on nothing but a mountain of lies, the government is still way worse. And with the church, if you want to stop paying for the lies, you can tell them to pound sand. Try that with the government and eventually individuals with guns will come haul you away to the nightmare that is the Federal prison system.

Anais--- I notice you don't say anything the government provides for those that don't want to pay or work for a living, like food stamps, unemployment checks, free medical, free cell phones, free housing, etc. Not saying anything about military, police and fire protection.

If you haven't notice how socialistic this country has been going, at least until about twenty one months ago.

With power like that, why would they even care about their image. The feds have their own city with nothing but politicians and lobbyists, they all get along and don't give a crap about the rest of the country. Why should anyone expect honesty or transparency.

Wait, the TSCC has its own city filled with lobbyists and they don't care about the rest of the church members. I still don't know which is the biggest liar.
