she would be taking a 10-day "fast" from social media, at the direction of the profit. Has anyone heard how that is working out? I bet kids are sneaking away from parental figures and social-media-ing away on their phones whenever they can.

The church would just LOVE to divorce its members from social media, I think.

I just posted on that on here and on FB.

Men must be whining about their women not getting the dishes done because they are on their phones and having impure thoughts! :-)

Doesn't the church use social media as a marketing tool?

Didn't San Quentin Cook say that some wards effectively used social media to remind members about lesson and schedules?

Just saying...

It's just for 10 days.

That's enough time for the MORMONS to get that M-word out of their media blitz, and erased off the internet entirely. With plenty of computer-savvy senior missionaries doing the work for free, in 10 days there will be no such thing as "Mormons" at all. "We don't know that we teach that."

Enough time for the "me-too" movement to blow over, and die with a collective sigh of despair....

Enough time for women to forget about the bishop's interviews their innocent children will still be subjected to.

I used to challenge Mormons to take a break from church for a month, but only one friend took me up on the challenge. She left the cult. All Mormon women need is that break, that little gasp of fresh air, that small glimpse of what life is like outside of the gloom and doom of that death cult, and they won't want to go back. Maybe the Mormons think women will prefer life away from social contact--NOT. That demonstrates how little understanding the Mormon priesthood leaders have of women in general.

The Internet Highway will be the death knell for TSCC. It can't stop the Exodus, it can only try to slow it down.

I doubt any of the Big 15 wants to be the last man standing when the implosion occurs. It will never be a complete destruction of the religion but when you see the profit driving a mini Cooper and women start taking over the priesthood "at the veil" you will know it's getting pretty bad.

That is a funny visual, the prophet driving a Cooper mini.

And they are such cute cars !!!!

The mormon priesthood ego must be assuaged.

What's the point of taking a ten day vacation from social media?

I don't understand this pointless directive.

It's an exercise in control. Nelson could've told them all to paint their toenails gray, and they'd do it. It's not the action asked, it's the obedience required.

you're right... they always have to have some stupid sh*** to show their control over everyone... its nutz.

So preventing women from making negative comments about the big 15 on social media is a good thing ?

It is a media blackout to prevent them from reading all the criticism of Nelson and Oaks' talks. It is authoritarian censorship. It is the Nauvoo Expositor all over again. Funny how these "fasts" always happen right after they say something offensive.

That asked, the Mormon friends I have on FB still are posting

All the mormon women who are my fb friends are taking the vacation and I haven't seen my daughter posting today, but she is definitely texting her friends.

So what about the men?

Wild speculation that the church is going to crack down (as usual) on men that watch too many sporting events.

Maybe double down on their online porn viewing.

No, they aren't worried about overexposure to sporting events. They are worried that the women folk will start to learn the truth and begin to challenge their superiority.

None of my Mo relatives have posted on FB today. I don't follow many of them anyway. Lots of ex, post, and former Mos online though.

And I see lots of Mo women on Twitter today.

This blackout could very well have something to do with the sexual abuse allegations leveled against president nelson's family.

If Nelson can get Mormons to turn off their social media for ten days, he can ask them to do it longer in an effort to stay off sites like this one. Because he knows the danger that is lurking for members to be surfing the Internet. It's there at every click of the mouse.

In that sense, he is a visionary.

Turn it off, tune out the temptation. Ten days is such a small timeframe. It's to get people's attention off the Internet and back @ church.

Because there are rude drivers and awful accidents on roads, I have decided to take a 10-day road fast.

How inspired is that?

Because empowered women are the thing they fear the most. Pure and simple.

Sites like this one and the fact that people are posting the temple ceremonies, making it so much easier to get the real information about the secret stuff and the stuff the church wants people to not realize or focus on make the control the church has had less effective.

Every time there has been a conference for the past several years one of them rants about social media. The reason is usually given that social media keeps people from interacting face to face, takes time and attention away from more important activities such as service----not to mention the (real) concern about children as well as adults having easy, private access to porn, etc.

Personally I think these are legitimate concerns----but blanket condemnation such as I've heard during conference, calling for a fast of social media--I'm betting has a lot to do with trying to keep people from exploring and researching whether the church is true or not, besides the concerns everybody has about real interactions face-to-face, losing parts of our culture that really are being lost and were valuable.

Do you think they are thinking it will keep their women from seeing Hatch waving women off, telling them to "grow up"? Not intended to be political, but I think some LDS women would be shocked to see their revered LDS senator act so disrespectfully to women in general. 10 days would give that whole issue to fade away. They don't want "their women" getting riled up like the women who are frothing about metoo stuff. (No matter how we each may feel about this, the answer is not tying to repress it.)

I find it odd that ONLY women were asked to do this?
Why?
I find the timing of this suspicious too.

I find it disturbing that the women just obey like a bunch of brainless sheep.

Yes, we know the real reasons--especially the "Me-too" movement.

If the cult were really interested in women having more face-to-face socializing, they would provide a social mingle after church on Sundays, like other churches do. They would allow visiting in the hallways. They would encourage class discussions or other discussion groups. They would not kill the ladies' book clubs. They would bring back women's fund-raisers, like the Christmas bazaar, and bake sales.

Every mother knows that the best way to keep your children from OD-ing on video games and TV, is to offer them more. Just about any dumb thing is more interesting--we've been examining all the neat bugs in the yard, and collecting acorns, pine cones, and thistles to make wreaths. We would rather pick up rotten apples and dog poo than go to church, however.

Come on, Mormons, what do you have to offer women? Anything?

Was it Nelson's son-in-law who committed suicide in 1995? I remember when that sex abuse scandal made the news. I didn't recall which GA's relative it was. If it was Nelson's then heck yeah, there's going to be a major coverup!

Many people overuse their mobile internet. They cannot sit down for tea and biscuits with me without posting it live, which entirely destroys the moment for me. Or they answer every buzz or ping during a movie at home or a meal al fresco. I tend to unfriend such people. Not online, but where it counts, in the real world.

So yes, some people could do with going cold turkey for ten days. I myself can stay offline for a whole week when I'm abroad. But others may not need this in order to learn when to use it and when not. Or so I hope.

Did your friend who announced the 10-day fast on FB come back and see what the reaction to his/her post was?

Just wondering...you know, sorta like the mormon folks who used to sneak extra pieces of sacrament bread on fast Sundays 'cause they were just really, really hungry...:)
