What's the FIRST thing you did the second that 24 hour period was up?

That's obvious, yes. But my point is that it will do nothing be postpone the inevitable.

I don't know, it's not a bad idea to temporarily abstain from something that is fundamentally addicting like social media.

I'm currently abstaining from added sugar for a while. Just because I'll eventually enjoy a tasty snack doesn't mean the time away from added sugar wasn't to my overall benefit, right?

So I gave up fasting.

Hey, I was hungry and some guy was offering Hostess Ho-Hos, Ding-Dongs and those Sno Ball things with coconut sprinkles. You ever have one of those?

Look Rusty needs a 10day break from his chalk and slate board so that he can get some learning about that newfangled Interweb thing that's just starting out.

Currently he thinks that Social media is a STD.

I am all for social media fasts and do them often. I think it's healthy.

I've tried to encourage friends and family to them and they all refuse. Suddenly, several of those people are doing them just cuz prophet says to.

I abstain from social media at least six to eight hours in every twenty four hour period.

This business pays for over half the family's meals, fuel, all travel. The budget can't manage without it.\

How is she able to access her clients? How are her clients that are in the church able to access her without direct in person contact? The business is based on internet connectivity- she would need at least three employees possibly more to physically call or visit all her sales contacts, she would need a marketing budget investment that is huge- purchasing bill boards or television commercials to reach out- buy spots on radio instead.
how is she going to manage marketing for on going investment in sales product for which she needs commissions?

This is horrible direct fiscal impact on their family

Apparently both republican and Democrat candidates are unhappy about this fast which takes place as vote by mail ballots are going out. Female candidates in Utah see social media networks as the best way to contact potential female voters.

You might be on to the real reason here.

Maybe the "brethren" are hoping that the sisters will forget they were ever "Mormon" during the ten days, and when they return to social media, anything anti-Mormon will have no effect.

Refraining from social media for a length of time is health, IMO.
I've been in the company of people who can't put it aside during a conversation.

It's rude.

Yes, it happens. But it is a problem, not a sin.

And makes no sense. It is just a "dance monkey dance" move and only for women? Ridiculous!

I am very good at fasting between meals. Send me $19.99 and I will email you the secrets to my success... BUT WAIT! ...act now and I'll double the secrets! Simply pay additional handling charges.

If you want short lasting, inferior advise, by all means buy from the above poster. My advice has helped thousands and is/was endorsed by SWK (author of The Miracle of Fastgiveness). For 3 payments of $9.99 you will be rid of all hunger when you fast between meals.

Social media breaks/fasts are healthy. If people want to twist it to rage offense, they cannot be open to reason.

It isn’t a big deal. But anything can be exaggerated for those with an axe to grind.

Offended by the recommendation to fast? Don’t do it. Problem solved. Aka Get A Life.

Much like the Pope two days ago telling all faithful to pray the special prayer to Arch Angel Saint Michael. EVERY DAY. Cuz the devil is to blame for sexual abuse.

Don’t like the Pope’s mandate? Don’t Do It.

Choice. Amazing how some people hate choice!

I don't have 24 hour periods. I don't have periods. I'm out of school, and I'm not a girl.

More milquetoast squeamishness from the people who pretend to a unique ear to the god of us all.

Rather than social media fasting, we are long overdue for social media abstinence:

***If “Antisocial Media” is scholarly in tone, Jaron Lanier’s “Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now” is cheeky. Lanier, a computer scientist who has become one of Silicon Valley’s best-known apostates, aims to convince us that Facebook, Twitter and other such platforms are so deeply corrupt, their effects so personally and socially destructive, that we need to ditch them, and fast. “Quitting entirely is the only option for change,” he writes.

Lanier sees social media as a manipulative system that demeans everyone it ensnares. The more information about ourselves we feed into it, the better it gets at steering our thoughts and opinions. The essential business of a company like Facebook, he argues, is behavior modification. Not only does it harvest incredibly detailed data about individuals’ habits and preferences, but it also runs myriad experiments aimed at determining which messages and other stimuli are most likely to grab attention, elicit strong reactions and trigger compulsive consumption of information. Needless to say, these kinds of sophisticated techniques for psychological engineering are extremely valuable to advertisers that want to sell us goods. They’re equally valuable to political operatives, legitimate or otherwise, who want to shape our views.

Because the techniques are hidden from us — the companies treat their algorithms as trade secrets — we’re rarely conscious of the ways we’re being manipulated.***

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/is-facebook-the-problem-with-facebook-or-is-it-us/2018/06/28/5949992e-5939-11e8-8836-a4a123c359ab_story.html?utm_term=.698b93043624

Here’s but one example of those who seek to manipulate our views via Facebook:

https://theintercept.com/2016/09/12/facebook-is-collaborating-with-the-israeli-government-to-determine-what-should-be-censored/

Of course, everyone from solitary individuals to deep-pocketed collectives have sought to shape our views and have done so for millennia, but never on such a scale and in so hidden a way as today via social media.

Skip the fast and abstain altogether is not only my recommendation but is also the recommendation of a growing number of the very people who brought us the internet and social media.

There is nothing at all wrong with taking a break from social media for a time, in fact as has been said it can be a healthy thing to do if you choose to do so.
However, the problem here as I see it, is that the women in the church are only doing it because they've been told to by old Rusty who they see as a prophet, so it must be inspired and from gawd himself.
So like good little sheeple they're doing as they're told, bowing their heads and saying yes.
