In my first epistle to the exmos, I asked that our posters be friendly and congenial with each other. https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,2163222
And yet, some of you have been involved in the exact personal attacks and bickering that I expressly said that I didn't want to see.

There's no need for such fighting and it will stop now. I've gotten rid of a couple of threads that were causing trouble and I have no problem with getting rid of more. I don't like removing posts and I don't do it lightly. Be assured I will not permit pointless bickering to drag this forum into a mire of irrelevancy. That's not what it's here for.

CZ's quickie guide on posting etiquette:

* Do share your personal experiences.
* Do post on topics related to Mormonism and recovery therefrom.
* Do be kind to others.
* Do think before you post: "What is my writing intended to accomplish?"
* Do respect the privacy of other posters.

* Do not attack other posters.
* Do not ascribe motives to other posters.
* Do not expect that everyone here will agree with what you write.
* Do not expect that the admins will mediate your dispute or take your side. I'd rather lop off an entire conversation than see things get further bogged down.

Feel free to disagree with each other, but do so in a congenial fashion.

Always remember that, on the Internet, you'll never convince everyone (or possibly anyone) to agree with you or even change their mind.
https://www.xkcd.com/386/

Recovering from a damaging cult is far more important than showing off for others, so please:
Post calmly. Post kindly. Post relevantly.

Thanks,

CZ (benevolent and forgiving admin)

"Do think before you post: 'What is my writing intended to accomplish?'"

This is where I may fail in my duty to RfM. I have a tendency to put myself in the mind of other members, and I then leap to the conclusion of 'what the heck is this drivel doing here!?!' Of course my own drivel is sacred...

But I can see how the board should err on the side of inclusivity. Nonetheless, I reserve the right to sigh heavily in the privacy of my abode, or at McDonald's, etc., etc.

As frustrating as it was to see so many of my posts deleted, I have to admit that you probably did the right thing, CZ, not that you are looking for my stamp of approval...

Threads like that are interest-consuming in the moment but upon reflection probably not the best use of us, as posters, resources.

Although cl2’s original post was very interesting. Thread definitely got derailed.

Sorry, CZ. Again, doesn’t sound like you’re asking for anyone’s forgiveness, but I’ll give it anyway.

Edit: if we want to discuss Robert Kirby in the future, are we allowed to?

"Let us all speak kind words to each other..."

Funny how things just pop in the head like Packer's head did just after that refrain did.

OMG I thought the same thing about that song. I guess some things never can be forgotten.

Did Packer's head pop in as well?

No, but it spun around several times.

The world in it’s entirety would be a better place if the tenets set forth in the original post were adopted by all.

I appreciate your emphasis on this point CZ. You are free to delete my comments if I ever step over the line which I will try not to. There is the preview option which gives one the opportunity to examine for not only errors, bad wording etc. but the tone and demeanor as well.

As long as the glow writes out IP addresses, and not Reformed Egyptian translations, you're OK with us :)

A fond welcome to our new non-robot overlord. Knowing your history here, I anticipate a benevolent takeover.

open Concrete's Zipper and found Susan I/S hiding inside. :)

Sorry, your juvenile snickering doesn't work in this case. The etymology of my sobriquet "Concrete Zipper" is from the high-occupancy "zipper" lanes on I-93 south of Boston. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=zipper+lane+i-93

And Susan I/S retired from moderator duties long before I took over.

Good jokes are appreciated.
Bad jokes will be criticized, sometimes harshly.

I have to confess: I still, in my heart of hearts, believe that Susan I/S still watches over me...

She may well, but that has nothing to do with RfM.

I used to drive the I-30 in east Dallas where they employed a concrete zipper to change the alternate lanes twice a day.

Ooooh, NG, good one!

Is my question valid? Is "Old Yeller" kindness ... a kindness? And don't we owe ourselves 'kindness'?

Oh I get you now. I was focusing literally, on one dog, one mercy. You had me puzzled there.

Dare I? (Apologies ahead of time)

"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other..."(Eph. 4:32)

Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (1 Cor. 13:4)

It was the word, of all words, you chose, CZ - "kind". Always reminds me of these thoughts. Easy to recite. Hard to practice.

People here have been very, very good to me.

Leaving mormonism was easy. The bad part was the shunning by TBM friends and loved ones.

For me, that was the razor wire. You have to be willing to “run the wire,” though, to free yourself from from anything as damaging as a cult. RfM is people waiting to wrap you in blankets. I hope to be that for others.

There is a warmth here that is hard to find in real life.

What does it mean to be kind and all those other things?

All I've been well-versed on is knowing how to be exactly obedient to the Brethren. Its the greatest blessing of the wondrous beloved Correlation program to only be focused on obedience. All these suggestions to be kind, calm, respectful, and not attacking others (if they oppose the beloved doctrines) seem too "natural man" if we're going to learn to be good sheep who follow the Correlation Shepherd.

Oh yes, recovering from a damaging cult is very important and an amazing feat for those who can accomplish it. Look at the Jehovah's Witnesses who have a committee of old clueless men who keep their people tightly governed and who aren't fully honest and transparent with them on things. And look at the Scientologists and many other organizations that do the same. I would look at the Mormon, ooops I mean [long phrase], that same way but thanks to the holy Correlation program I'm well-indoctrinated to never dare to go there but to be a good obedient lamb.

I wonder if the Zipper Man is aware that "CZ" are the initials of a once-prominent Czech motorcycle brand, quite successful on the European motocross circuit mid/late 20th century:

Česká zbrojovka

Motorcycle production ceased before the turn of the 21'st century, but the corporate entity survives as an automobile component manufacturer (I think).
