CK's post about being nice and why we are here to begin with and it made me want to recommend a book for healing, for all of us.
"The Feeling Good Handbook" by David Burns
It is work at your own pace cognitive therapy and has done wonders for me. Helped me fix some deep bullshit I have been carrying around from the church and parents who made some incredibly bad parenting decisions.
"The Happiness Trap" by Russ Harris. It's a mindfulness-based approach for coping with life day to day. I learned about it when I saw a psychologist about managing a chronic illness I have.
As for mindfulness itself, if you feel inclined consider beginning a practice. Meditation is to mindfulness as exercise is to fitness.
