After the Hofmann bombings, an article authored by Dallin appeared in the Ensign, whining about unfair media coverage. In it he used "Mormon" in the way that we now know sends The Lord™ into a snit:

"In some media coverage of this episode, there is evidence that religious prejudice is alive and well in many newsrooms and that Mormon-bashing is still popular and apparently profitable."

The church, lacking any discernment whatsoever, forks over hundreds of thousands of dollars for fake documents that they want to lock away in their vault so nobody can examine them.

Then the guy who sold them starts blowing people up, afraid he's going to get caught, and the mormons are revealed to be led by idiots.

And Dallin thinks that's "religious prejudice?"

Maybe that's why Rusty is going all anti-mormon: historical incidents like the one you linked to show mormons to be stupid?

Lawyers and judges interpret things with prejudice all of the time. This is one of them.

In reaction to content of Hoffman documents, Oaks started up with industrial strength MORmON apologetics (BS EXCUSES) about why (Nut case) MORmON founder Joe Smith would (supposedly) be reasonable in referring to the angel Moroni as a white salamander Lizard. It was because of Joe's highly ingrained back woods folksy nature, Oaks asserted in his attempt to reASSure everyone on the matter. Oaks gave that talk to BYU faculty in Aug 1985,

.....Joseph Smith looked like some kind of major league weirdo, and hardly any kind of venerable holy man to be revered, but good old BS artist /church historian and legal spin doctor attorney Dallin Oaks was somehow right there Joey on the spot to readily defend the image of good old folksy Prophet (PERVERT) Joe!!!!!

Days later, Hoffman killed some people with bombs, and then accidentally blew himself up. As the Hoffman matter unraveled, it became blatantly obvious that Oaks emphatic apologetics on Joseph Smith's highly ingrained folksy ways were entirely superfluous as in completely unwarranted, at least as far as referring to angels as lizards was concerned.

......Funny thing, Oak's "White Salamander" talk from General conference was completely ABSENT from the subsequent November 85 Ensign conference report edition, AND from the audio cassette tape sets for Oct '85 conference that LD$ inc so vigorously peddles/ markets.

For me, the incident serves as prima facie indication that MORmON leaders are brim full of self serving CRAP and LIES, far from being moral exemplars. It is also one more very memorable point in time when I SHOULD have quit THE (MORmON) church along the way but did not manage to .....to my extreme detriment.
