Just an observation.

From my perspective, it's nothing to me what others believe. And I enjoy not being hectored about my lack of belief.

But I suppose I owe an apology for "preaching" about the Bell-shaped Curve. Sorry...

The only thing that's "pro" about the site is that it's pro-recovery from the organization which no longer wants to be called Mormon. I tend to call it "the Corporation" myself.

This is not called 'covering atheism'.
You can observe all you want.
What can you add though?
That is the question.

I'm not an atheist. I used to feel slammed for still believing in God after Mormonism. But people don't seem to care so much anymore.

Since God is love, I like to think that he lovingly delivered me from a cult called Mormonism (short name now.)

I think some of the more radical posters have moved on and the mods are doing a good job of enforcing better behavior. The atheists are still here, but they seem to be more content to live and let live than they were when I first came here.

Atheists! Atheists!
Sis-boom-bah!
Atheists! Atheists!
Rah! Rah! Rah!

Honestly, I don't care if people believe in ________ as long as they don't use religion as a weapon against others or as an excuse to do crap things.

It appears this site is still pro ex-Mormon.

Think of it as a half-way house for recovering culties.

From my observations, among ex-Mos include a large proportion of atheists, agnostics, and New Age. Also those who remain believers in something, just not in Mormonism.

See? President Nelson’s changes are working already.

Ex-elder Benson will be back at some point... At least I predict he will... He's clearly the "most visible atheist" here, and his presence figures strongly in the perceptions of many. But right now the board appears to me to be really slow (not sure why), and that may be a factor in what you're "seeing."

As for myself, these days I make a lousy agnostic even, but other than Steve and one other believer, I don't think I know what the beliefs of many here are.

I just don't pay any attention to that one. I grew up an atheist among the faithful Mormons, and I like to tweak folks by stealing that old "As you are, I once was" couplet the Hinkster said he wasn't sure they taught anymore.

But as John Prine sang: "To believe in this living is just a hard way to go."

Edit: And after slipping over to e-mail a friend, I suddenly realized OP's POV of view is particularly dichotomous...

It never was.
I'm glad you finally noticed.

This site was never "pro-Atheist".

The board isn’t set up to be pro-atheist and never was, as far as I know.

But if you’ve been observing as long as I have, then I too have noticed a difference in the quantity and vehemence of atheistic posts, from the hey-day of the New Atheism/Skeptic cultural phenomena to now. But I haven’t observed closely enough to know how much of this change is because the more strident have moved on or have stayed on and are simply less strident now.

Either way, the board changes constantly, as old voices die away, new voices rise up and all voices naturally change their tenor over time.
