"With an average age of 88½, Nelson, Oaks, Eyring make up the oldest First Presidency in LDS history ...

The LDS Church’s First Presidency of today is the oldest threesome in the faith’s nearly 200-year history.

According to statistician Christian Anderson, the male trio governing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has gotten older and older as the religion moved from its beginnings in 1830 to its just-completed 188th Semiannual General Conference.

Founder Joseph Smith was 26.3 years old in March 1832, when he organized the fledgling faith’s original First Presidency — with himself as president and Jesse Gause (46) and Sidney Rigdon (39.1) as the two counselors."

The Top Prophet is always the guy who has the most seniority in terms of the number of years serving as an official apostle.

If the current Top Prophet guy is in his nineties and you are an apostle who is, let's say, 5th in line after 4 other guys who have more seniority, you have to outlive all of those 4 other guys in order to one day become the Top Prophet guy. It's like a game of musical funerals.

+++++

Man! That system is so inspired and so inspiring that I just get goosebumps!! Hell, I get ostrich bumps!

Total reliance on a rigid seniority system to determine who God's next Top Prophet will be. What ordinary human organization could ever come up with a system like that?? It's just more proof that God's inspiration is being poured out upon the Church like never before. Revelation and direct communication with God controls everything. So, so, sooo...very inspired.

BWEEP! BWEEP! BWEEP!!!!!

Sorry, that's my sarcasm alarm. Apparently, I've already exceeded my daily quota. ;o)

People have been living longer since the 1960's due to modern medicine. We can keep the body living longer but the mind still tends to go. The result? An older first presidency who are losing their minds.

The solution. Automatic retirement at age 70 for apostles and prophets. The problem is none of these old geezers are going to vote themselves out.

where the Top Prophet guy is in such bad shape that he had to be wheeled out in a wheel chair and looked liked he had been run over by a truck.

But the show had to go on and every Mormon around the world was eager and waiting on the edge of his/her seat to hear "the voice of the Prophet".

So, inevitably, the old guy would have to say something. It usually would be in some wheezy, gravelly voice and sound like "Ah no bu ch..ch a..jeez ku..Uuhem...cough...cough...ah..mu..men"

And then the guy who actually still had some energy and was really running things would come up and tell us what to think about that weird scene that we had all witnessed.

Of course Ezra T. was about the worst because that condition lingered on for so long. Hunter was practically DOA when he became Top Prophet. You would think the "restoration" would have fixed problems like this.

Compared to some of his predecessors, Russ is in better physical condition. He's aged well. At the rate he's going he may make it to the century mark.

With his hot young bride by his side, who's to say as he crosses over the finish line as a centenarian?

In the Roman Catholic church, Joseph Ratzinger became Pope Benedict xvi in 2005 at the age of 78.
Most popes die in office--some of them perhaps helped along a little--but on 11 February 2013, Benedict announced his resignation, citing a "lack of strength of mind and body" due to his advanced age. His resignation became effective on 28 February 2013. He is the first Pope to resign since Pope Gregory XII in 1415, and the first to do so on his own initiative since Pope Celestine V in 1294. He had a number of health problems including a stroke, and had a pacemaker implanted while still a Cardinal.
In North Korea, arguably the world's only "socialist monarchy," Kim Il Sung died in office in 1994 at age 82. He was the second longest-serving non-royal head of state/government in the 20th century, in office for more than 48 years. His son Kim Jong Il died in office of a heart attack in 2011 at the age of 70.
A few others for comparison:
Leopold II of Belgium, died in office at age 74;
Victoria of England, ruled for 64 years, died in office at age 82;
Elizabeth I of England, ruled for 45 years, died in office at age 70;
Elizabeth II of England, became Queen in 1952 and is still in office 66 years later at age 92;
Ramses II (the Great) of Egypt, ruled for 66 years, died in office at age 90;
Mao ZeDong of Communist China, died in office at age 83;
Chiang Kai-Shek of Nationalist China, died in office at age 88;
Joseph Stalin of Russia, died in office at age 74;
J. Edgar Hoover of Washington, DC, head of the FBI for 48 years, died in office at age 77;
Mary Baker Eddy, founder and head of American Christian Science, died in office at age 81;
and Herbert W. Armstrong of Pasadena, California, first Pastor General of The Worldwide Church of God, died in office at age 92.

This is unequivocally true. I have read probably a dozen biographies of Hitler, and there is no doubt that during the war he became a serious addict to several drugs. That last year of the war he was almost a zombie.

Herr Hitler was dedicated to a wholesome diet, no alcohol, and no tobacco.

"Adolf Hitler Had An Excellent Diet

Roya Nikkah, The Telegraph Feb. 9, 2013, 7:35 AM
Hitler
Wikipedia
A woman who served as Adolf Hitler's food taster has claimed that the Führer was a dedicated vegetarian.
Margot Woelk, 95, said that Hitler ate only the freshest fruit and vegetables during the two and a half years that she was forced to check his food for traces of poison.

During the Second World War, Mrs Woelk, a German citizen whose husband had been sent to fight, was taken by the SS to Hitler's Eastern Front headquarters in modern-day Poland, known as the "Wolf's Lair".

There, she joined a team of a dozen other women whose job it was to protect Hitler from any attempts to poison him."

https://www.businessinsider.com/adolf-hitler-had-an-excellent-diet-2013-2

"In December of 1933, a newspaper article was written in the Church News section of The Deseret News. The title of the article was “Mormonism in the New Germany.” This article praised the new regime of Adolf Hitler and sought to compare the glory of LDS teachings with the new doctrine of Nazism that was spreading across the German nations. The article's author, Dale Clark, was not the only Mormon to openly praise Hitler and Nazi Germany. Many other Mormon publications, including The Millennial Star, were used to compare and contrast Mormonism with Nazi Germany.

The first correlation of the LDS church with Nazism centered on the dynamic leader of Germany, Adolf Hitler. He was charismatic, strong, dedicated to his beliefs, a great orator, and was widely viewed as a savior figure to the Fatherland. Many Mormons could appreciate the qualities of a figure like Hitler, as these characteristics were the same ones valued in a General Authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Those traits continued to stretch into more concrete beliefs that Latter-Day Saints could identify with, namely the Word of Wisdom.

Dale Clark described Hitler's dedication to principles found in Doctrine and Covenants section 89 in the following manner:

There is another noticeable trend in the “Mormon” direction. It is a very well known fact that Hitler observes a form of living which “Mormons” term the “Word of Wisdom.” He will not take alcohol, does not smoke and is very strict about his diet, insisting on plain and wholesome foods, largely vegetarian."

he really liked his chocolates. He also was on a wide variety of prescription drugs, with the cooperation of several physicians--sort of like some more recent public figures, but I won't mention any names.
According to one recurrent story, he was on high doses of atropine to keep him from farting--plus painkillers, stimulants, etc.
One factor in the success of the D-day invasion was that certain Panzer units could not be committed without his personal order; he had taken a sleeping pill; and they were afraid to wake him up. Evidently he didn't delegate well, either.
All this according to several history channel documentaries and youtube videos, FWIW.

I'm not sure it's right to say Hitler "lived a Mormon lifestyle." Sure, he was a vegetarian and did not drink. But he was a drug fiend, which would seem to violate the word of Wisdom.

More importantly, why does his diet even matter? His "lifestyle" included instigating violent riots as early as 1923, encouraging street violence for years, encouraged terrorism and the assassination of rivals--all before assuming power in January 1933. Thereafter, he organized the slaughter of his rivals in the Night of the Long Knives; encouraged the imprisonment, torture, and murder of Jews, gays, Slavs, Gypsies, and the handicapped. And finally he destroyed Europe and paved the way for Stalin to occupy half the continent for almost five decades.

Whether Hitler didn't imbibe is about as irrelevant as one can get. It is silly to suggest that abstemiousness means he lived a "Mormon lifestyle" in any meaningful sense. Even raising the comparison diminishes his atrocities and humanizes one of the most evil men in a uniquely sanguinary century.

When you live as long as Russ Nelson, the odds are high he's outlived his own family members, circle of friends, and children.

I met a 100 year old man on a NYC bus once who told me he outlived his entire family, ie, his wife and all of his five children. My heart broke for him. What's worse, because he was so old, the bus driver and others didn't even notice him trying to board the bus, or when he needed to get off. I assisted him by telling some passengers to move so he could get off.

Moses didn't get to cross over into the Promised Land. He only got to see it before dying.

Nelson has traveled there as a tourist, not as a prophet except in his own mind. What has he done equivalent to Moses? He didn't deliver the Hebrews from hundreds of years of slavery. He didn't perform miracles to show the Egyptians the power he'd been entrusted with, or rain plagues upon Egypt to get Pharaoh to set his people free.

Moses had fulfilled his mission by the time he'd taken his people almost to their destination, before God called him home from his journey. His life calling was already completed by then.

Nelson, on the other hand, isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He had been planning and vying to be made president for a good many years. For all we know he has had body part transplants that are bionic, which may help explain why he appears less than fully human at times, and more like a machine running an enterprise.

Wendy is the perfect Stepford Wife. Between them all that's missing are a couple of kids named Wednesday and Pugsley.

What has Nelson done as a "prophet?"

Lowered a meeting block from three to two hours a week. Extorted money from some of the most impoverished people on earth. Dropped Mormon from the name the Mormon church has gone by since its inception.

Not exactly sure how visionary that one was. Maybe he was just tired of all the Mormon jokes he didn't get.
