As for me, a nice cup of hot tea. Instead of the pale ale I had my eye on.

So, what's your tipple this Friday evening?

I'm looking at the slanted rays of sun shimmer off of the bright red apples on the tree outside my home office window. The other trees are golden. Above the trees is the great mountain, with snow in its rocky gullies. One of the snow patches is a real glacier. I'm sipping hot mulled apple cider, that my daughter made for me. No, I don't want to dull my senses--not on a night like this!

Truly, Molson was the first beer I *enjoyed*.

Probably one of those "replace a meal" shakes. I have not been doing too well on eating since DH has been gone.

I found out at the eye doctor's earlier today that my left eye is not only extremely dry (this has been an ongoing problem with both eyes) but that I may be coming down with a viral infection on the cornea. I have to go back in on Monday for a re-check with an MD in their group.

DH was triumphant. He said that the guy he has been working with has been dithering about when they would come home. DH says he is going to tell the guy, "I am going home and plan to be there Monday, for sure. DW is having eye issues, her blood pressure is going through the roof (also true, probably not helped by the stress of missing him. Primary care doc doesn't want to give me any more of the med I have been using for years, because it doesn't seem to be helping any more, and she wants to consult with my renal meds specialist, whom I am to see on the 23rd.) and I need to be there for her." My primary care provider and my renal specialist have been SUPER about coordinating my care.

DH just called, to re-affirm that he will be home by noon on Monday. Sweeter words were never spoken!!

It's DH's call. His truck. His buddy can stay as long as he likes, but DH is coming home. For sure. No more dithering.

Oh that is good news Catnip, that your husband is making clear his intentions are to get back home to you.

I had a fruit smoothie for pre-dinner earlier. It has so many nutrients it is a meal in itself. Then I microwaved a pasta dish with spinach and pesto sauce that was pretty tasty (Healthy Choice.)

Hope you feel better real soon. Having your husband back home with you will help.

I Add some vanilla to the iced milk. It satisfies thirst and hunger at the same time. In the winter, I add almond extract along with the vanilla, and heat it, in a Christmas mug.

I'm allergic to caffeine--so it's a substitute. Probably those extracts have alcohol in them, which makes it even better.

Waking up to a Cold Brew coffee espresso drink I find in the dairy section at my grocer's. Fill the cup halfway, then top it off with almond milk. (It comes pre-packaged in an almond milk base.) It's very good, and just strong enough to get my morning started.

I cooked some pinto beans in the crockpot, baked honey/bbq wings, and cornbread.

Sweet tea to chase.

It was delish!

As a professional Lamanite, I can certainly vouch for the goodness of pinto beans. But with honey BBQ chicken wings? Even I prefer sweetish baked beans in such a setting!

Or did you use some kind of sweetish sauce with los frijolitos? Inquiring Lamanites want to know!!

Nothing sweet in the beans. I cooked them with bacon, sprinkled some onion soup mix, salt/pepper.

I seasoned the wings, lathered them with a honey/bbq sauce mix, baked in oven.

Women at shul today were swearing by the virtue of baked beans on toast. To them that is heavenly.

Some may add cheese, and extras. But the Boston baked beans by themselves are enough to keep them in Seventh Heaven.

:)

Not having been present, I cannot vouch for the claim that England withstood the Nazi onslaught thru the judicious and timely application of beans on toast.

But it sounds about right.

That was mentioned about the Holocaust today. One of the women at my table is a survivor. She'd be the same age as Anne Frank if Anne were living.

Someone at your table mentioned that surviving the Holocaust was linked to the judicious and timely application of beans on toast? Was it the 85-year-old survivor? Cuz she's the only I'm likely to believe on this issue.

Her and her daughter, who is my age. What does it matter to you? You're the one who brought it up.

They were the ones who said they love baked beans on toast.

What a fascinatingly wonderful disjointed conversation!

The British do not 'bake' the beans they put on toast. American Baked Beans do get baked in an oven.

Sure, there may be Baked Beans on Toast, but not in England...just Beans on Toast. How strange that they grew to love Baked Beans on Toast!

The women at synagogue eat baked beans on toast *now*.

They also said that beans on toast was eaten during WWII. Not baked beans on toast.

You are the one who brought up the Holocaust claim of eating beans on toast to which I added that the women from shul were aware of that.

What did you not get?

I had a Crispin apple cider earlier today [I don't drink them in the afternoon-evening anymore], and having a red wine with my chanterelle mushroom and leek w/ rice dinner tonight. I'll be making more dishes with these soon. It's fall!

I'm editing pictures this evening and looking at many of the meals and drinks I've made or had over the years. It's almost like drinking them all over again, but not quite.

Why don't you drink the apple cider in the afternoon or evenings anymore? Is there a dietary reason? It sounds delish.

It tends to give me heartburners, or acid reflex, or indiegestacles, whatever is most appropriate. I generally try to drink earlier in the day [not as much at night] - meaning sometime between 5-7 pm, or, occasionally, between about 12-5 - but just try to tell that to my glass of wine sitting next to me, getting cold, or even the wine itself. In fact, that is the wine talking. I haven't said anything all night. But I will, dammit! Maybe

It was pretty good. So is tonight's Chanterelle & Lobster mushroom Pasta, all over, and under, and in me. So will be that bath. Wash it all off. ;)

There's foods I try to avoid because of acid reflux.

Good you can enjoy it earlier in the day.
