A couple months ago in our North Texas ward, two new bishops counselors were called on the same Sunday. Both have long, thick dark full beards. Two months later both are still fully bearded.

A few years ago in another ward, a bearded friend of mine was called into a bishopric with the understanding that he would have to shave his beard to serve in that capacity.

Does anyone know if the tscc has relaxed the beard policy . . . or are bearded counselors an anomaly?

I imagine it depends on how hard up they are for worthy & willing candidates.

MY cousin was bishop in a VERY TBM village in SW Alberta. He wore his mustache for the whole 5 years.

I visited a ward in a large Eastern US city last year. Two members of the bishopric had beards (including the bishop). I was told the bishop, a convert, also had tats.

I should add, this was NOT a typical LDS Ward—most of the congregation were black. Women wore pants, and a couple of folks wore crosses.

So, my guess is that with newcomers, far away from the Morridor, the rules aren’t stressed. The Visiting Boner.

Do they wan't people [VOLUNTEERS] to do the job.

Do they want people who will commit, or that look good [or different] - or bad - or that will bend, like a branch?

It's not what's growing on your face but what's in your heart.
Not what you do with your hands, but what you do with your head.

Using your head, though, might cause you not to be there, no matter how hairy or bald you are.

It varies and is highly dependant on local leadership.
Ones Stake President and his prejudices often make the determination.
One good friend shaved a fine beard and moustache when called to the Bishopric because this Stake Prez did not like facial hair at all. So, every leadership type was bald faced or released and temple recommends revoked. Go a day without shaving and if he saw it he would send them home to shave.

Next Stake over was no problem. Local leaders - local opinions.

I wonder if ghawd giggles as he furnishes, differently, every stake & bishopric with "discernment."

Imagine if the next mormon prophet's pet peeve is the rejection of facial hair and he sort of goes into hiding in early March and then shows up at April Conference in a full beard...

Beards are BACK in fashion [they never really went out, except on the weekends, in some areas]!

Ties are out!

TSCC needs a fashion consultant.
