We've had a glorious fall to date, warm sunny days for weeks and the usual amazing show of autumn leaves everywhere. Our Halloween weather today though - huge brooding evergreens, smaller trees barely hanging on to scant red and yellow leaves, overcast skies, drizzle, eerie brooding silence, single bird flying overhead - spooky as hell. I'm keeping my door locked, especially tonight. And uncorking my hoarded bottle of white wine, all for me.

Have fun y'all. Be safe!

ETA: I know celebration seems vastly out of place, given the tough and sad world and local situations people face everywhere. We pause in solidarity and continue to think of others so much less fortunate than we happen to be in any given day. Hearts are broken. We notice. We care.

Southern Alberta will have a cool and windy Halloween. I don't expect any kids at my door out here in the sticks. Haven't had trick or treaters for over 20 years.

We get scattering of little kids early. A few teens around dinner. So why do I buy a giant box of goodies? Hmmmm. I was right it's spooky. Dark. Cold. Power just died. Brrrrr. Eek. Home alone...

I was/am home alone too. Nothing last night but my neighbor called this morning to tell me his farm shop had been broken into last night. He woke up to here a truck drive out of his yard. Rotten bastards.

Cold and snow in Montana tonight. Most of the little creatures trick or treat on main street with the local businesses so we don't get many rings at the door. Like Nightingale, I'll be enjoying an adult beverage on the couch.

My first child was born at home (planned home birth with a midwife) on Halloween. Labor pains, contractions, and trick-or-treaters--memorable! Especially that 9-pound healthy baby boy.

My son was 9.9 lbs. Not born at home, no way no how.

I wasn't brave enough to do that.

I had two grown adults at my door just as I was getting ready to head out for the evening. I didn't answer the doorbell.

Spending evening watching the Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof. It is superb.

Happy Fright Night to all. May it be just the right amount of fun, and not too spooky.

:)
