I received an e-mail from the church offering $100 to participate in a focus group:

“We are looking for participants in the Salt Lake City area for upcoming focus groups that will discuss a range of topics including faith, religious engagement and personal motivations. We value the perspectives of all members, regardless of current level of activity or engagement with the Church. Participants will be compensated for their time and participation.

To indicate your interest and availability to participate in this research, please follow the link below to complete a brief online survey.”

I filled out the survey, but now I’m wondering if that’s all they wanted. They promise $100 IF you’re selected to participate in one of the focus group sessions, but they already got some feedback from me. I’m wondering if the bishop here gave them my name.

Too bad you can't bargain for a one-year exemption from paying tithing.

You can!

A person can bargain for permanent relief from ever paying tithing again.

I know because I did, and I got it !!!!

take the money and give 'em hell. Is this what passes for revelation these days? Revelation by focus group. Yeah, that's the ticket. You'd think the content of all of our resignation letters would have told them everything they could ever want to know.

I'd love to be in that focus group.

Throwing money around.

Do the idiots realize how hard it is for some poor families in the church to come up with $ 100 in tithing?

Why don't they just ask their prophet or listen to what God has to say?

Something seems fishy. I wonder if it's a PR tactic. Only selective people will be chosen--all of them pro-Mormon--if it's really sponsored by the Mormon church. If the group is to be videoed, you would be chosen if you are a person of color.

Sorry--but I have never heard of TSCC actually PAYING anyone. That's why I don't think this is for real.

" I’m wondering if the bishop here gave them my name."

I'm guessing you're right. The church does target "marketing". Nothing happens by accident. I'm betting it's a new, sneaky campaign to snag people on someone's list.

You wouldn't actually get $100 anyway. After tithing, you would get $90.

...it might be interesting to see who actually cuts the check. Corporate, Kirton McConkie, Ensign Advisors, or some other entity. Might give insight on who needs this data....and why.

It could be some kind of gift certificate or $100 to be used towards a church related function, not cash

Ahem. 'Scuse me, aren't you forgetting somefin? It's $90--Ghawd needs his $10 cut for headhunter fees.

TSCC once was led by a So-called president, prophet, seer and revelator.

This focus group invite indicates that those days are gone and the pendulum has swung to the extreme opposite of the founder’s intent.

Why does anyone stay?

J. Smith, Proprietor would not recognize his creation as it is today...
