I was just reading a thread and the name of George P Lee popped up and I remembered him as an Area authority who was assigned to Australia when I was working there as a manager.

He came with his wife -was it Kitty?- and their seemingly 100 children and the first thing that I knew about him was that he was sort of banished from Salt Lake and was sent here to Oz to redeem himself or something.

He was given a beautiful house which was located in an upscale suburb of Sydney and one day I noticed the church office staff in a panic because his children were tearing up the properties plants and were throwing them into the street.

This sort of thing was ongoing.

Then I attended a stake conference and he spoke about the lost tribes being located in a cave at the North Pole and that in the last days a big staircase would form and they would all come marching out. -I think the film Frozen was based on this:)-

Anyway he was then excommunicated for reasons unknown and then seemed to disappear.

I am interested because he seemed Lost for a GA and during his stay here in OZ you could tell that he didn't want to be here.

And hey what's this cave in the North Pole all about??? How do you heat it? Is frozen Neas on the menu? How do the toilets flush?

the reference says one of 17 children. I wonder if part of the issue of being labelled a sex offender might be cultural norms of the Navajos versus the mormons.

Maybe western ideas of what is acceptable didn't fit in with what this other group thinks as what is acceptable hence such a harsh sentance. It's hard to say?

It's good to see that some things never change, macaRomney.

"excommunicated for reasons unknown"

He was excommunicated for writing a nasty letter to ET Benson that accused him of being a racist. Benson, despite his love for the Book of Mormon, refused to grant absolute supremacy to "Lamanites" within the church. As far as he was concerned, that would depend on said people accepting en masse "the fulness of the gospel," which has never happened and doesn't appear too likely at this point.

Lee was the star "Lamanite" authority and milked it for all it was worth. Apparently it wasn't worth as much deference as he craved, and he was shut down hard. He started drinking a lot, and he was arrested shortly before his death for molesting a child.

His skin color never turned white, despite Spencer W. Kimball's absurd claims in that 1960 General Conference talk. Lee went over the edge and lost his mind.

The earth is hollow and the ten or twelve or whatever the number is tribes are hiding inside of the earth and they ride on T-rexes.

Hey, come on, religion doesn't get any more entertaining than this.

It’s too bad none of the mounts or saddle bags survived the petrification process.

I worked as a parole officer in early 2000’s in Southern Utah and was specifically involved in the enforcement of Utah’s sex offender registration laws. George Lee was arrested at least once for failing to register. He became a pastor in a small nondenominational church that was short lived. He ran for president of the Navajo Nation in the early nineties.

I do remember that in the later days of his life he was often seen outside the Casinos in Mesquite, Nevada, often intoxicated and begging for money.

Being Indian or Lamanite was never easy in decades past.

Once Kimball was out, Mormonism finished Lee off.

Poor schmuck

He was also a child molester.

"…Other questions were asked when Brother [William] Clayton was not present, one of which I will relate: I asked where the nine and a half tribes of Israel were. 'Well,' said he [JS], 'you remember the old caldron or potash kettle you used to boil maple sap in for sugar, don't you?' I said yes. 'Well,' said he, 'they are in the north pole in a concave just the shape of that kettle. And John the Revelator is with them, preparing them for their return.'" (Benjamin F. Johnson, My Life's Review, p. 93)

Did George P. Lee "really" say that? REally?

One of my companions on my mission, a big STUPID AS HELL rich immoral bullie-brat from Alpine, Utah, once told me that the Lost Tribes were hidden away in Alberta, Canada, because that was "the North Countries". Not even kidding. He also told a female investigator:

"OK, The Book of Mormon is about a bad people that God turned BLACK, and a good people that kept WHITE."

Yes he said that, to her, and he was 100% serious.

George P. Lee:

He was molesting young girls, as young as 12, for YEARS as a General Authority. They probably sent him to Australia for the same reason that Catholic Bishops "transfer" Catholic priests who molest children. Same reason. To HIDE them. To get them away from accusers and the LAW.

But Lee was NOT excommunicated for molesting young girls. He was excommunicated for writing a note to President Benson calling him a "racist" for cancelling the Indian Placement Program (which he had been a part of as a youth). The Church cancelled the Indian Placement Program for two reasons:

1) Some of the good High Priests were screwing the Navajo girls, who were often molested before they got to Utah or Idaho or Mesa.

2) Radical members of the "American Indian Movement" were planning to protest in Salt Lake City, claiming that the Indian Placement Program was "stealing youth" from the reservations and "trying to make them into white people". This was TRUE, when one considers that President Spencer W. Kimball, truly and sincerely believed that American Indians would "turn white" if they became good Mormons. Yes, he believed that.

After Lee was excommunicated, he returned to the Navajo Reservation, ran for leadership of that Nation, was defeated. He was convicted of molestation in Utah, but, "back room deals" prevented much jail time, if any. He DID eventually come back to the LDS Church. Not sure if he was rebaptized, but his funeral was held at an LDS Meetinghouse in Arizona.

Hope this helps.

Yes 100% he said that as I heard it with my own ears. -cause they are the only ears that I own:)-

Show you how stupid I was as a true believer at the time I said to the person next to me 'I thought that the North Pole was just floating ice'

Talk about me being a dumb shit!

There are verses in Revelation about an attack from the North.

So when your buddy Putin sends his ICBMs on a ballistic trajectory over the north pole will that be considered to be an attack from the north ?

That is not what I was talking about. Well aware that some eschatologists link Gog and Magog with Russia, but I was talking about a more bizarre interpretation of forces from the inner Earth fighting with us up here (or down there - depending on who you ask).

Me too. A Lost Tribe of Israel is in danger of losing its habitat due to global warming.
