Did George P. Lee "really" say that? REally?
One of my companions on my mission, a big STUPID AS HELL rich immoral bullie-brat from Alpine, Utah, once told me that the Lost Tribes were hidden away in Alberta, Canada, because that was "the North Countries". Not even kidding. He also told a female investigator:
"OK, The Book of Mormon is about a bad people that God turned BLACK, and a good people that kept WHITE."
Yes he said that, to her, and he was 100% serious.
George P. Lee:
He was molesting young girls, as young as 12, for YEARS as a General Authority. They probably sent him to Australia for the same reason that Catholic Bishops "transfer" Catholic priests who molest children. Same reason. To HIDE them. To get them away from accusers and the LAW.
But Lee was NOT excommunicated for molesting young girls. He was excommunicated for writing a note to President Benson calling him a "racist" for cancelling the Indian Placement Program (which he had been a part of as a youth). The Church cancelled the Indian Placement Program for two reasons:
1) Some of the good High Priests were screwing the Navajo girls, who were often molested before they got to Utah or Idaho or Mesa.
2) Radical members of the "American Indian Movement" were planning to protest in Salt Lake City, claiming that the Indian Placement Program was "stealing youth" from the reservations and "trying to make them into white people". This was TRUE, when one considers that President Spencer W. Kimball, truly and sincerely believed that American Indians would "turn white" if they became good Mormons. Yes, he believed that.
After Lee was excommunicated, he returned to the Navajo Reservation, ran for leadership of that Nation, was defeated. He was convicted of molestation in Utah, but, "back room deals" prevented much jail time, if any. He DID eventually come back to the LDS Church. Not sure if he was rebaptized, but his funeral was held at an LDS Meetinghouse in Arizona.
Hope this helps.
